Residenza d’Epoca Palazzo Riblet
First Impressions
Walking up to Residenza d’Epoca Palazzo Riblet on Via della Scala, you immediately sense you’re about to experience something special. This four-star boutique property sits on the primo piano of a historic Florentine palazzo, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better — you’re literally in the heart of Florence here. The entrance has that understated elegance that screams quality without being flashy, which I actually prefer to those over-the-top hotel lobbies that try too hard.
The Perfect Florence Base
What really struck me about this place is how effortlessly you can explore the city from here. Santa Maria Novella train station is practically around the corner, which means you can arrive and drop your bags without dealing with taxis or long walks with luggage. But more importantly, you’re within easy walking distance of the Duomo, Ponte Vecchio, and all those narrow streets where you’ll find the best gelato spots that locals actually frequent. I mean, couples rate the location 9.5 out of 10 for good reason — there’s something romantic about being able to stroll to dinner and stumble upon hidden piazzas along the way.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in had that perfect blend of historic charm and modern comfort that’s surprisingly hard to find in Florence. You know what I loved? The high ceilings and original architectural details that remind you you’re sleeping in a piece of history, but with air conditioning that actually works (trust me, this matters in summer). The bathrooms are well-appointed without being unnecessarily fancy, and the beds are genuinely comfortable — not always a given in boutique properties that prioritize style over substance.
Neighborhood Charm
Via della Scala itself is one of those streets that feels authentically Florentine rather than touristy, even though you’re so centrally located. There’s a wonderful mix of local shops, wine bars, and that neighborhood energy where you’ll see the same faces at the corner café each morning. The Santa Maria Novella area has this lived-in quality — you’re not just visiting Florence, you’re actually experiencing how it feels to be part of the city’s daily rhythm. Plus, having the beautiful Santa Maria Novella church and piazza so close means you have this gorgeous, peaceful space to escape to when the city crowds get overwhelming.
Why Guests Love It
Honestly, it’s the combination of authenticity and accessibility that makes this place work so well. You’re getting that genuine Florentine palazzo experience without sacrificing modern conveniences or paying those eye-watering prices you’ll find at some of the more famous hotels. The 9.2 rating reflects what I experienced — consistently good service, thoughtful details, and that rare feeling that you’ve discovered something special rather than just booked another hotel room. For couples especially, there’s something undeniably romantic about staying in a historic residence where you can walk hand-in-hand to dinner and feel like you’re living in your own little Florentine love story, even if just for a few days.

He suggests good place to eat and tourist spots to visit.
It has a lift for the luggage.
He's generous too for the free wine and water dispenser(outside rooms), snacks (bread, coffee &tea).
The place is clean, good wifi and of course AC (it's a must for the summer heat).
Very good location- near Santa Maria Novella Station, a lot of places to eat around.
What I love the most is the oldest pharmacy in the world just in front of the building- Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella.
Good location, very friendly and informative host, good AC
