B&B Principe Calaf 3
Lucca, ItalyFirst Impressions
When I first pulled up to B&B Principe Calaf 3, I’ll admit I was a bit surprised by how peaceful everything felt despite being so close to Lucca‘s historic center. The property sits on Via Vecchia di Nozzano, which sounds fancy but is actually just a quiet residential street that locals use as a shortcut. What immediately caught my attention was the free parking right on site β honestly, if you’ve ever tried to park in Lucca’s old town, you know this is basically gold. The building itself has that understated Italian charm where everything looks effortlessly put together without trying too hard.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about this spot: you’re close enough to walk into Lucca’s famous walls in about fifteen minutes, but far enough out that you actually get some peace and quiet at night. The Via Vecchia di Nozzano area is where actual Lucchesi live, so you’ll see neighbors chatting on their stoops and kids riding bikes β it feels authentic in a way that staying right in the tourist zone never does. I mean, you can still easily reach Piazza dell’Anfiteatro or climb the Guinigi Tower, but you’re not dealing with tour groups walking past your window at 7 AM.
The Room Experience
The beds here are genuinely something special β I’m talking about the kind of sleep where you wake up actually refreshed instead of feeling like you wrestled with Italian sheets all night. The rooms have this clean, uncluttered feel that I really appreciated after spending days wandering through Lucca’s busy streets. Everything works properly (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given at smaller Italian properties), and there’s enough space to actually unpack your suitcase instead of living out of it for your entire stay. The whole setup just feels thoughtfully designed rather than thrown together.
Breakfast & Morning Routine
The Italian buffet breakfast hits that sweet spot between having enough variety and not overwhelming you with choices at 8 AM. You know what I really appreciated? They actually understand that not everyone wants a heavy meal first thing in the morning, so there are lighter options alongside the more traditional Italian breakfast items. The coffee is proper Italian coffee β none of that watered-down hotel stuff β and the whole breakfast area has this relaxed vibe where you can actually take your time instead of feeling rushed to clear out for the next wave of guests.
Why Guests Love It
What really makes this place work is how it manages to feel both convenient and peaceful at the same time. Couples especially seem to get it β there’s something about the combination of easy parking, comfortable beds, and that slightly removed-from-the-chaos location that just works for a romantic getaway. You’re not paying tourist-zone prices, but you’re also not sacrificing comfort or ending up somewhere that requires a complicated commute into town. It’s the kind of place where you can have a genuine Tuscan experience without feeling like you’re performing “vacation” every minute of the day.

Great rate
What could be improved: Nothing to write here. Everything was ok.
What could be improved: Nothing.
What could be improved: Finding the hotel entrance is a bit tricky. A sign at Via Vecchia di Nozzano and another on the corner in front of #171, would make it much easier.
What could be improved: No AC in the room. Inside was warmer then outside
What could be improved: The outside area could use an upgrade with some trees and plants to give some shadows and also would give the place a more courtyard feeling - the house is really nice renovated but the outside area doesn't match the house
