Al Campanile
Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of places in Florence, and Al Campanile just gets it right in a way that honestly surprised me. You walk into this converted 15th-century building on Via dei Servi – which, by the way, is one of those narrow streets that feels like you’re stepping back in time – and there’s this immediate sense that someone actually thought about what travelers want. The lobby isn’t trying too hard to impress, but the original stone archways and restored frescoes remind you that you’re sleeping somewhere with actual history. I mean, Napoleon supposedly stayed here, though half the hotels in Florence claim that.
What really won me over was the attention to details that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The rooms have proper reading lights (shocking how many places mess this up), and the beds are firm enough that you won’t wake up feeling like you wrestled with Renaissance cobblestones all night. The bathrooms are modern without being sterile – heated floors, decent water pressure, and those little touches like quality toiletries that make you feel less like you’re camping in a fancy tent. You know what I really appreciated? The windows actually open, and since you’re tucked away from the main tourist drags, you get morning light without the chaos of Vespas and tour groups at 7 AM.
The location is where Al Campanile really shines, though they’d never put it this way in their marketing. You’re literally a three-minute walk from the Duomo – I timed it – but you’re on the side that locals actually use to get around. Via dei Servi connects you to Piazza Santissima Annunziata, which is probably my favorite square in Florence because it’s gorgeous but not overrun with selfie sticks. The staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood too, not just the obvious tourist spots. When I mentioned wanting good coffee, they sent me to this tiny place around the corner where the barista knew everyone’s order by heart. The concierge – Paolo, I think? – gave me walking directions that avoided the worst crowds, which during peak season is worth its weight in gold. There’s no parking, but honestly, you don’t want a car in Florence anyway. The train station is a fifteen-minute walk, or you can grab a taxi easily enough. Just be prepared for narrow hallways and a small elevator – it’s a medieval building, after all, not a modern chain hotel.

Minimal facilities in apartment but suited us as we only needed to sleep & shower. We were out all day for our 3 days. Location 50 mt to Duomo, and walked distance to all the major piazza e attractions.
