Agriturismo Quarantallina
Buonconvento, ItalyYou know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Agriturismo Quarantallina – I mean, you’re basically driving through endless Tuscan countryside south of Siena, and then suddenly there’s this gorgeous stone farmhouse sitting among olive groves like it’s been there forever. Which, honestly, it probably has. The whole place feels authentically rural in a way that’s getting harder to find, especially this close to the Val d’Orcia (you’re literally 10 minutes from those postcard-perfect rolling hills everyone goes crazy for on Instagram).
What really got me was how the family running this place actually lives the agriturismo lifestyle – this isn’t some corporate hotel pretending to be rustic. They’re producing their own olive oil, and you can smell it during harvest season in late October. The rooms are that perfect balance of keeping the old stone walls and wooden beams while actually having decent Wi-Fi and proper bathrooms. I stayed in one of the upstairs rooms, and honestly, waking up to those views across the valley with morning mist… well, it’s pretty hard to beat. The breakfast situation is legit too – fresh ricotta, local honey, and this incredible jam they make from their own fruit trees. Fair warning though: if you’re expecting a buzzy social scene, this isn’t your place. It’s quiet here, properly quiet, which I loved but some people might find too sleepy.
The location is actually brilliant if you know how to work it. Sure, Buonconvento itself is tiny – basically one main street with a few good restaurants and that’s it – but you’re positioned perfectly for day trips. Montalcino is maybe 20 minutes away, and you can hit Pienza and Montepulciano easily. Plus, being off the main tourist trail means you can actually find parking in these hill towns, which anyone who’s driven around here in summer will tell you is worth its weight in gold. The only real downside? You definitely need a car – there’s no walking to dinner unless you want to hike down to town, and good luck getting a taxi out here. But honestly, that’s part of the charm. This is proper countryside living, just with really nice sheets and someone else making your breakfast.

What could be improved: We liked everything, except the driving road to the property was bumpy.
What could be improved: -
The views to die for
The building lovely
In short a wonderful place
What could be improved: The electrical power went off from some outlets and some lights and the heater, probably due to overload and faulty wiring. But that prevented us from charging our phones. No coffee cups inside the room.
What could be improved: The bathroom was small and the toilet was tricky to flush well.
The view is spectacular.
The breakfast was rich and fresh.
The bed was comfortable.
Helpful owner.
What could be improved: The bedroom was small.
The bathroom was very basic (not like in the pictures) - no bath, just curtains
No potable water we had to buy mineral water from the owner.
What could be improved: Nothing to mention
