Wine Resort Colsereno
Montalcino, ItalyLook, I’ve stayed at plenty of places in Tuscany, but Wine Resort Colsereno really gets it right in a way that’s hard to put into words. When you’re driving up that winding road to Podere Colsereno 31 – and yeah, you’ll definitely want a car because it’s about 10 minutes outside Montalcino proper – there’s this moment where the cypress trees part and you see the property spread out below you. It’s not massive or intimidating, just… perfectly scaled, you know? The kind of place where you immediately feel like you can breathe again.
What struck me most was how they’ve managed to feel like a proper wine estate without that stuffy, overly precious vibe some places have. The rooms are in these converted stone buildings that actually feel lived-in rather than museum-perfect. My room had these thick walls that kept everything blissfully quiet – important because harvest season can get lively with all the activity – and honestly, the bed was one of those “sink right in after a day of wine tasting” situations. The bathroom had this amazing rainfall shower, though I should mention the water pressure takes a second to get going in the mornings. Small thing, but you know how it is.
The real magic happens at dinner, though. They serve it on this terrace that overlooks the vineyards, and during golden hour – which in September lasts forever – you’re basically eating inside a postcard. The food is that perfect middle ground between fancy and rustic, like someone’s incredibly talented nonna decided to show off. I mean, the pici with wild boar ragu was ridiculously good, and they paired it with their own Brunello that wasn’t even on the regular wine list yet. The staff clearly knows their stuff about wine, but they’re not condescending about it. They’ll happily explain why this particular vintage works with the pecorino, or just let you drink in peace if that’s your vibe.
Parking is easy – there’s a proper lot right by the main building – and check-in was refreshingly straightforward. No hovering or overselling of spa treatments. Speaking of which, the spa is small but thoughtfully done. I did the wine therapy treatment (when in Rome, right?) and it was genuinely relaxing, not just Instagram-worthy. The pool area gets busy around 3 PM when people return from Montalcino, but mornings are usually peaceful if you want to swim laps or just float around.
If you’re planning to visit, book directly through them rather than third-party sites – they sometimes have room upgrades available, and the woman at the front desk (I think her name was Giulia?) really knows the area. She pointed me toward this tiny enoteca in town that I never would have found otherwise. The whole experience feels authentic in a way that’s getting harder to find, especially somewhere with a 9.3 rating that’s actually earned. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find yourself planning your next trip back before you’ve even checked out.

Guest Reviews
We are so grateful that we learned so much—about their wine, their food, their craft. Their extraordinary wine left an indelible mark on us: the wine tour was deeply interesting, filled with laughter, stories, and insights. We laughed freely, we learned endlessly—and their passion ignited our joy
The food? Absolutely from another star—every bite shimmering with authenticity and soul. And the place itself is marvelous!
The people are simply lovable. They do everything with all their heart, and that heartfelt sincerity moved us deeply. I literally cried when we left—our eyes welled up, not out of sadness at ending, but gratitude for having found such a treasure.
We feel so grateful to have had the chance to experience this—from their homemade wines and local gastronomy to learning about the traditions and labor woven into every product. We just felt we were in the right place, at the right time.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts—for the warmth, the wisdom, the wonder, for making us feel at home. We will carry this memory forever.
What could be improved: Absolutely nothing thing that was not perfect!
What could be improved: For me the decor of the room was not to my taste though perfect in every other way
The view is breathtaking.
Ate the offered picnic and breakfast both days outside with the amazing view. The food was delicious (thanks Rita).
Enjoyed our chats with the owners. They were wonderful hosts and very helpful in directing us to visit some of the nearby small towns.
Both the Brunello and the Rosso were delicious.
What could be improved: We didn’t expect so many of the dirt roads but they were also part of the adventure.
What could be improved: Nothing!
The people managing the property were extremely kind, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay. Their warm hospitality made a big difference and made us feel truly cared for.
We highly recommend this place to anyone seeking a beautiful and peaceful escape in the heart of Tuscany. We’re already dreaming of coming back!
What could be improved: Bed and furniture could do with an upgrade but besides that really clean
What could be improved: They don't really offer dinner, but a picnic basket, which is very complete and organised, but you have to eat outside or in your room. They only open the restaurant for breakfast. It would have been nice to have the option of eating in the restaurant, even without service.
