First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Podere Cunina, honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this four-star property tucked away in the Tuscan countryside. The approach through rolling hills dotted with cypress trees already felt like stepping into a postcard, but the agriturismo itself — well, it’s something special. Set on a working farm estate, this place manages to feel both rustic and refined without trying too hard. You know what struck me most? The complete silence, broken only by the occasional bleating of sheep in nearby fields.

Location & Setting

The location near Buonconvento is actually perfect if you want to explore the Val d’Orcia region without dealing with tourist crowds. I mean, you’re about 30 minutes from Siena and close enough to those famous hilltop towns like Pienza and Montalcino — but far enough away that you feel like you’ve discovered something authentic. The parking situation is refreshingly simple too; there’s plenty of free space right on the property, which is a relief after navigating narrow Italian village streets all day.

The Accommodations

My room was in a beautifully restored stone farmhouse, and I have to say, they’ve done the renovation thoughtfully. The original beamed ceilings and terracotta floors give you that genuine Tuscan feel, while modern touches like excellent Wi-Fi and a spotless bathroom keep things comfortable. The windows frame views of vineyards and olive groves that change color throughout the day — honestly, I spent way too much time just sitting there watching the light shift across the landscape. Each accommodation feels private and spacious, not cramped like some agriturismos can be.

Dining & Local Flavors

The on-site restaurant focuses on ingredients from their own farm and local producers, which sounds cliché until you taste it. Their homemade pasta with wild boar ragu was exceptional, and the wine list features bottles from neighboring vineyards that you probably won’t find back home. Breakfast includes their own honey, fresh eggs, and bread that’s still warm — simple but perfect. What I appreciated most was how they handle dinner service; it’s not rushed or overly formal, just good food served at a pace that lets you actually relax and enjoy the evening.

Why Guests Love It

There’s something about this place that makes couples particularly happy — and I can see why after spending time here. The combination of genuine tranquility, stunning scenery, and thoughtful hospitality creates exactly the kind of atmosphere where you can disconnect and focus on each other. The staff knows the area inside and out, so they’ll point you toward hidden gems and local experiences that tour groups miss. It’s not flashy or over-the-top luxurious, but it delivers something more valuable: an authentic taste of rural Tuscany that feels both special and real.

The warmth, the kindness and hospitality of Silvana and her husband. They truly reminded us of our parents from another country to take care of us and inform of any details around the area. Their cooking class with Marcello was top notch as well, best experience so far in Toscana

The hosts were fantastic! They were warm, hospitable, and welcoming which made for a great stay. The property was beautiful, an idyllic setting, and well located with respect to town. A great base for doing day trips, although we chose to spend most of our time at the Podere enjoying their little slice of heaven. I only wish we could’ve stayed longer.

The property was beautiful and Silvana was so welcoming and helpful. Marcello’s cooking class was great! We made the most delicious gnocchi. We hope to go back one day.

The farm is absolutely breathtaking. The apartment in the farm house was lovely and traditional. It had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming and they gave great advice on top places to see in the area with a clearly marked map to make our explorations easier.

Wonderful, serene and relaxing stay on a working farm. The apartment we stayed in was large, with a loft, with all the facilities of a typical home. As our host Silvana mentioned….one comes to the Tuscany to enjoy the country side, to slow down and relax. Podere Cunina was one of our favourite accommodations while travelling through the Tuscany. Every morning, we wake up to a misty country side view, and in the evening, we faced a picturesque sunset, something you won’t catch staying in the city. Restaurants are easy to find in the area, or you can plan to cook and enjoy a slow dinner in the apartment. Definitely a choice accommodation when we return to the Tuscany.

Wonderful location, amazing 360 degree view of the Val D'orcia Valley, lovely and well maintained garden, delightful and helpful owners. Incredibly comfortable beds, fully stocked kitchen, space full of details. This is the kind of place you want to come back to and we certainly will. A paradise on earth, the perfect place for families and couples alike. Everyone will find their quiet corner here. Thank you for the time we were able to spend at Podere Cunina.
