Agriturismo La Ripolina
Buonconvento, ItalyYou know what? I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first pulled up to Agriturismo La Ripolina – I mean, finding Podere S. Ignazio 173 isn’t exactly straightforward if you’re coming from the autostrada. But once you wind through those cypress-lined back roads just outside Buonconvento, you’ll understand why this place has such a devoted following. It’s one of those agriturismos that actually feels like a working farm, not some sanitized version created for tourists.
The whole property sits on this gentle hillside with those classic Tuscan views that honestly never get old – you wake up to rolling wheat fields and medieval towers in the distance. What I love about La Ripolina is that it strikes this perfect balance between rustic charm and actual comfort. The rooms are in these converted farm buildings with thick stone walls that keep everything wonderfully cool even in July (trust me on this one), and the owners have done this restoration that feels authentic without being stuffy about it. The Wi-Fi actually works, which isn’t always a given in these rural spots, and parking is never an issue – you just pull up on the gravel and you’re done.
Here’s the thing that really sets this place apart though: the family that runs it genuinely cares about the whole agriturismo experience. They’re still producing their own olive oil and wine, and breakfast includes eggs from their actual chickens – I know that sounds like marketing speak, but you can literally hear the roosters in the morning. The evening meals (when they’re doing them) feature vegetables from their garden, and the pasta is made fresh daily. It’s about a ten-minute drive into Buonconvento proper, which is perfect because you get the authentic countryside quiet but you’re not completely isolated. The town has a couple of solid restaurants and a small market for basics, plus it’s right on the old Via Francigena pilgrimage route if you’re into that history.
The pool area is where you’ll probably spend your afternoons – it’s got this incredible panoramic view and enough space that it never feels crowded, even when they’re fully booked. Summer evenings there are magical, actually, with the sun setting over the Val d’Orcia and maybe some local wine from their vineyard. The whole place has this 8.7 rating for good reason – it’s the kind of spot where you immediately start planning your return visit. Just book early if you’re thinking about visiting during harvest season in the fall, because word has definitely gotten out about this gem.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: At the beginning of autumn, the apartment (not the central one) can get a bit chilly. The rooms in the second building have only small windows, there is limited natural light inside.
What could be improved: Missing air conditioning in bedroom for hot days
What could be improved: The outdoor space in the annex building where we stayed was very dirty. We spent several hours cleaning out cob webs and dirt so that we could sit at the tables.
What could be improved: Although we read a lot of praise about their dinner, unfortunately, during our 4-night stay, they didn't organise it, and the restaurant was closed except for breakfast. A piece of advice would be to extend breakfast a bit longer so guests can sleep in when they are on vacation, as breakfast currently only lasts for 1 hour from 8:30 to 9:30.
What could be improved: The location is great and very rural but the road in could be better, very rough.
The host is very kind
What could be improved: none
Simply, it was just amazing and we will definitely come back there again :)
