Agriturismo Collelungo di Maremma
Magliano in Toscana, ItalyLook, I’ve stayed at plenty of agriturismos across Tuscany, but Collelungo di Maremma hits different – and I mean that in the best way possible. It’s tucked away down this winding country road about 12 kilometers from the main Poggio La Mozza route, which honestly feels like you’re driving to nowhere until suddenly you’re… there. The setting is pure Maremma magic – rolling hills dotted with olive groves, that distinctive scrubland landscape, and not a tour bus in sight. When you pull up (parking’s easy, thank god), you immediately get why this place scored a 9.4 rating. The restored farmhouse has this weathered stone facade that screams authentic without trying too hard, you know?
What really got me was how they’ve managed to keep the working farm vibe while actually being comfortable to stay in. The rooms – well, mine overlooked the vineyard and I could hear the faint bleating of sheep in the distance, which sounds annoying but was actually pretty soothing. The owners clearly know their stuff when it comes to hospitality, but they’re not hovering around being overly precious about everything. Breakfast features their own olive oil, cheese, and wine (yes, wine at breakfast – this is Italy, after all), and the woman who runs the kitchen will casually mention which tomatoes were picked that morning like it’s no big deal. The whole operation feels refreshingly unpretentious for a 4-star place.
Here’s what you should know if you’re considering it: you absolutely need a car, and GPS can get a bit wonky on those back roads, so download offline maps. The nearest proper restaurant is about 15 minutes away, but honestly, you’ll want to eat their farm-to-table dinners anyway – just book ahead because they don’t do them every night. The area gets pretty quiet after sunset, which is either perfect or potentially boring depending on what you’re after. I loved being able to walk through the olive groves with a glass of their Sangiovese and actually see stars, something you forget exists when you live in the city. The rooms can get warm in summer (this is southern Tuscany, after all), but they’ve got good fans and the stone walls keep things bearable. If you’re looking for that authentic Maremma experience without roughing it – proper beds, solid WiFi, and a pool that’s actually clean – this place delivers. Just don’t expect nightlife or shopping within walking distance. That’s kind of the point.
