Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of agriturismos in Tuscany, but Casale Sterpeti is honestly something different. You know that feeling when you’re driving through the Maremma countryside – those rolling hills dotted with olive groves – and you suddenly come across a place that looks like it’s been waiting there forever? That’s exactly what happened when I first pulled up to this converted farmhouse about four kilometers outside Magliano in Toscana. The gravel crunches under your tires as you approach, and there’s this immediate sense of… well, peace, I guess. The kind you can’t fake.

What really got me was how the owners have managed to restore this 17th-century building without losing its soul. The stone walls are thick enough that you actually don’t hear a thing at night (which, coming from Rome, was a revelation), and the rooms have this perfect balance of rustic charm and modern comfort. I mean, yes, there are beamed ceilings and terracotta floors – you’d expect that – but they’ve also figured out proper water pressure and air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a jet engine. The breakfast spread is ridiculous in the best way possible – local pecorino, homemade jams, fresh bread from the village bakery. They source most of their ingredients from farms within a ten-kilometer radius, and honestly, you can taste the difference. There’s this wild boar salami that the owner’s friend makes – I’m not usually a salami person, but I ended up buying three packages to take home.

The location is what really seals the deal though. You’re close enough to Magliano that you can walk into town for dinner (about fifteen minutes through the olive groves if you take the footpath), but far enough out that you feel completely disconnected from everything. The pool area faces west, so sunset aperitivo becomes this whole ritual – and trust me, after a day exploring places like Pitigliano or the thermal baths at Saturnia, that evening wind-down hits differently. The staff… actually, calling them staff feels wrong. It’s more like staying with friends who happen to be incredibly good at hospitality. They’ll point you toward the best local wine tastings, help you score reservations at that impossible-to-book restaurant in Scansano, or just sit and chat about the area’s history over a glass of Morellino. One evening, the owner’s daughter taught me how to make pici pasta – completely unprompted, just because I’d mentioned being interested in cooking. That’s the kind of place this is.

A peaceful and relaxing stay in the southern part of Tuscany The property is in a beautiful location with views of the Tuscan countryside and relatively near the coast (about 30-40 minutes drive). We liked the minimal decor of the buildings which combined modern with traditional Tuscan farmhouse. The staff are very accommodating and the breakfast was wonderful with a good mix of savory and sweet items. Simone is very helpful with local suggestions and makes great cappuccinos!

What could be improved: Everything was great.

Our stay was very good. Casale Sterpeti provided everything we needed from our visit. The location was excellent. The care from the owners and managers was also excellent, friendly, informative and in English when required. Organisation and administration of the stay was also very good. The local produce available for purchase added a level of distinctiveness and quality.

What could be improved: The only slight issue is the sound proofing from the a joining rooms bathroom. The hard surfaces that are otherwise a positive from a design and style perspective, no doubt contribute to this slight issue.

Beautiful rooms in the peaceful countryside. Everything on the property is very tasteful. The property is absolutely stunning and the owners are so nice and helpful. We loved sitting in the lawn chairs overlooking the olive grove and enjoying local wine and snacks. It is a very quick drive into Magliano and the staff helped acquire restaurant reservations for us every night at fantastic restaurants.

Absoutely lovely stay! Amazing place where every detail was thought through! The service was outstanding and the breakfast lovely. You got your coffee upon order and it tasted lovely. Just 5min car ride from Magliano in Toscana, where the hotel had some good tips for food. View was also lovely! Would absolutely recommend!

What could be improved: Cannot come up with a single thing.

Location, room, staff and breakfast were amazing. It felt like staying at someone’s home. Location and staff are incredible

What could be improved: The 1 point missing for a 10 would be to have a pool as the summer was very hot.
Otherwise very much on point and would 10/10 recommend.

Excellent - you have to go Beautiful location & view, at which you can watch the sunset go down with a lovely glass of wine! The moment you arrive at the property you feel at peace in a little slice of heaven beautifully thought out and created by the hosts. The hosts are the kindest souls! They will do whatever they can to make your stay exceptional. They are more than happy to help with local tips in the area and dinner reservations. To top it all off the homemade breakfasts are delicious! It’s slightly different everyday. The finishing the hotel is modern and really well done. We absolutely loved our stay!

What could be improved: Nothing.
