Casale Sterpeti
Magliano in Toscana, ItalyLook, I’ve stayed at a lot of agriturismos in Tuscany, but Casale Sterpeti is honestly something different. You know that feeling when you’re driving through the Maremma countryside – those rolling hills dotted with olive groves – and you suddenly come across a place that looks like it’s been waiting there forever? That’s exactly what happened when I first pulled up to this converted farmhouse about four kilometers outside Magliano in Toscana. The gravel crunches under your tires as you approach, and there’s this immediate sense of… well, peace, I guess. The kind you can’t fake.
What really got me was how the owners have managed to restore this 17th-century building without losing its soul. The stone walls are thick enough that you actually don’t hear a thing at night (which, coming from Rome, was a revelation), and the rooms have this perfect balance of rustic charm and modern comfort. I mean, yes, there are beamed ceilings and terracotta floors – you’d expect that – but they’ve also figured out proper water pressure and air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a jet engine. The breakfast spread is ridiculous in the best way possible – local pecorino, homemade jams, fresh bread from the village bakery. They source most of their ingredients from farms within a ten-kilometer radius, and honestly, you can taste the difference. There’s this wild boar salami that the owner’s friend makes – I’m not usually a salami person, but I ended up buying three packages to take home.
The location is what really seals the deal though. You’re close enough to Magliano that you can walk into town for dinner (about fifteen minutes through the olive groves if you take the footpath), but far enough out that you feel completely disconnected from everything. The pool area faces west, so sunset aperitivo becomes this whole ritual – and trust me, after a day exploring places like Pitigliano or the thermal baths at Saturnia, that evening wind-down hits differently. The staff… actually, calling them staff feels wrong. It’s more like staying with friends who happen to be incredibly good at hospitality. They’ll point you toward the best local wine tastings, help you score reservations at that impossible-to-book restaurant in Scansano, or just sit and chat about the area’s history over a glass of Morellino. One evening, the owner’s daughter taught me how to make pici pasta – completely unprompted, just because I’d mentioned being interested in cooking. That’s the kind of place this is.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Everything was great.
What could be improved: The only slight issue is the sound proofing from the a joining rooms bathroom. The hard surfaces that are otherwise a positive from a design and style perspective, no doubt contribute to this slight issue.
What could be improved: Cannot come up with a single thing.
What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: The 1 point missing for a 10 would be to have a pool as the summer was very hot.
Otherwise very much on point and would 10/10 recommend.
What could be improved: Nothing.
