Villa Guinigi Dimora di Epoca Exclusive Residence & Pool
Capannori, ItalyYou know those places where you walk in and immediately think “okay, this is why I came to Italy”? Villa Guinigi is exactly that kind of spot. I mean, the name alone sounds like something from a Renaissance novel, and honestly, the building delivers on that promise. It’s tucked away on Via di Matraia, which is one of those quiet residential streets where you’ll hear church bells instead of traffic – actually, you’re close enough to walk into Lucca’s old town, but far enough out that you won’t have tour groups marching past your window at 7 AM.
The whole place has this lived-in elegance that’s hard to fake. We’re talking thick stone walls, original frescoes that have been there longer than most countries have existed, and rooms that feel like someone’s very stylish Italian grandmother might have decorated them (in the best possible way). The pool area is where I spent most of my afternoons – it’s not huge, but it’s perfectly positioned to catch the late afternoon sun, and there’s something deeply satisfying about floating around while looking up at cypress trees and old villa walls. The staff actually knows the area, too, which is rarer than you’d think. They pointed me toward this little osteria about ten minutes away that I never would have found otherwise, and it ended up being one of those magical Italian meals where you lose track of time completely.
What really sets this place apart is how it balances that historic atmosphere with things that actually matter when you’re traveling. The Wi-Fi works reliably (I had calls to take, unfortunately), the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a jet engine, and there’s proper parking – which, if you’ve ever tried to navigate a rental car through Lucca’s medieval streets, you’ll understand is basically priceless. The rooms vary quite a bit since it’s an old building, so don’t expect cookie-cutter hotel uniformity, but that’s part of the charm. Some have these incredible vaulted ceilings, others have little terraces that overlook the gardens. Check-in was refreshingly smooth, and the woman at the front desk gave me the kind of local recommendations that actually enhanced my trip instead of just steering me toward tourist traps. It’s the sort of place where you find yourself lingering over breakfast (which is served in a sun-filled room that feels like a movie set) and genuinely not wanting to leave when checkout time rolls around.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: I think for a high end property it is time to invest in the gym. The sort of clientele that visits a property like this expect a high end gym. While well appointed a lot of the equipment is old with a mixture of new.
What could be improved: Everything
What could be improved: All were perfect
What could be improved: Difficult to find, gps did not find the property. But once we found it all was well!
What could be improved: N/a
What could be improved: Location was a bit further from Lucca than we realized (~20 minutes, but on windy mountain roads)
What could be improved: The internet was a bit slow, but not a big deal. Actually could be a plus for that location ;)
