Rustico del Chiasso
Capannori, ItalyFirst Impressions
You know what struck me first about Rustico del Chiasso? It’s tucked away on this quiet little street in Capannori where you’d almost miss it if you weren’t looking — but that’s exactly what makes it special. The name literally means “rustic of the alley,” and honestly, it captures the essence perfectly. This isn’t some flashy hotel trying to impress you with marble lobbies, but rather a genuine Italian retreat that feels like you’ve stumbled upon a well-kept local secret.
Location & Neighborhood
Capannori sits in this sweet spot between Lucca and the coast, and I mean that literally — you’re about fifteen minutes from Lucca’s famous walls and maybe thirty from the beaches at Viareggio. What I love about staying here is that you get the authentic Tuscan countryside experience without being completely isolated. The couples who stay at Rustico del Chiasso seem to get this balance perfectly (they rate the location 9.5, which honestly doesn’t surprise me). There’s something romantic about waking up to actual Italian village life instead of tourist crowds.
The Property Experience
The swimming pool here is what really sold me — it’s not huge, but it’s perfectly positioned to catch the afternoon sun, and after a day exploring the Tuscan hills, there’s nothing better than a quiet swim. What’s actually brilliant is the free private parking situation. I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to not worry about finding a spot or paying those ridiculous parking fees you get in the bigger towns. Recent guests have been rating this place 9.3 for location, and I get why — it’s that rare combination of peaceful and accessible.
The Authentic Touch
Here’s the thing about staying at places like Rustico del Chiasso — you’re not just booking a room, you’re getting a slice of real Italian life. The property has this lived-in charm that you simply can’t manufacture. I noticed little details that show someone actually cares about this place: the way the garden is maintained, how the common areas feel genuinely welcoming rather than staged for photos. It’s the kind of spot where you might find yourself chatting with other guests over morning coffee, sharing tips about the best local restaurants or which hill towns are worth the drive.
Why Guests Love It
With a 9.1 overall rating, Rustico del Chiasso clearly hits the mark for travelers who want something different from their Tuscan experience. What I think people respond to is the authenticity — this isn’t trying to be anything other than what it is: a comfortable, well-run place in a genuinely charming corner of Tuscany. You’ll wake up to actual Italian sounds (church bells, not traffic), you can park without stress, cool off in the pool when the afternoon heat gets intense, and use it as your base for exploring both the cultural treasures of Lucca and the broader Tuscan countryside. It’s particularly perfect for couples looking for that romantic Italian getaway without the tourist circus.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Niets.
De gastheer en gastvrouw zijn zeer vriendelijk en behulpzaam, maar niet nadrukkelijk aanwezig wat wij heel fijn vonden.
What could be improved: De bedden zijn wat minder van kwaliteit.
- nice owners, everythings prepared with love, well maintained
- fair price
- owners are almost unvisible but care for everything
- landscape around is great, good place for visitting cities around
What could be improved: - inside it‘s a bit grandparents style. But lovely at all
What could be improved: Nulla
What could be improved: De stoelen bij de eettafel zaten minder fijn maar dat was dan ook het enige
The grounds the apartment is on are very nice, well looked after and there's nothing you need. I scratched the rental car ever so slightly, and Lorenzo even had scratch remover to give us to help remove the scratch. At certain times in the day, all you can hear is silence, very relaxing. 5* all round.
What could be improved: Nothing to mention here - everything was great.
What could be improved: you need a car to stay here. no bath
