Villa Cesi Resort & Spa
Impruneta, ItalyYou know what? I almost drove right past Villa Cesi the first time I visited – it’s tucked away on Via delle Terre Bianche in this quiet corner of Impruneta that feels worlds away from Florence’s tourist chaos, even though you’re only about 20 minutes south of the city. The property sits on these rolling Tuscan hills that honestly look like someone painted them, and when you pull up the gravel drive, there’s this immediate sense of… I don’t know, breathing room? The kind of place where you actually want to leave your phone in the room.
The resort itself is built around this restored 16th-century villa – and I mean actually restored, not that fake-antique stuff you see everywhere. The original terracotta floors in the main building have this worn smoothness that only comes from centuries of use, and the stone walls stay cool even during those brutal August afternoons when the cicadas are going crazy outside. My room was in one of the newer wings (which, let’s be honest, I was grateful for since the plumbing actually worked properly), but they’ve done a really good job keeping the architectural integrity intact. The spa is probably the highlight – they’ve got this indoor pool that opens onto a terrace overlooking the vineyards, and the treatment rooms use local olive oil and herbs that actually smell like the countryside around you.
What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the area. When I mentioned wanting to explore beyond the usual Chianti tourist trail, the concierge pointed me toward this tiny ceramics workshop right here in Impruneta – turns out the town’s been famous for terracotta since the Renaissance, something I never would’ve discovered otherwise. The restaurant sources ingredients from farms you can literally see from the dining terrace, and while the menu isn’t trying to reinvent Italian cuisine, everything tastes like it should. I mean, when the tomatoes actually taste like tomatoes and the olive oil has that peppery bite, you remember why people fall in love with this region in the first place. Fair warning though – if you’re expecting nightlife or constant entertainment, this isn’t your spot. The pool area gets pretty quiet after sunset, and the nearest real town action is back toward Florence. But honestly, that’s exactly why it works. Sometimes you need a place where the biggest decision is whether to read your book by the pool or on your private terrace, and Villa Cesi delivers that in spades.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Liked it all and felt comfortable from first arrival, but pool looked like it needed a clean. Gym was small, though had one of main pieces of equipment
What could be improved: Our hire car fell through and made our stay here extremely inconvenient. Unless you have your own car I do not recommend staying here.
What could be improved: Restaurant lacked atmosphere and the food was pretty good expensive.
What could be improved: The gym had most equipment but could have done with a weights bench. Lacking a lunch menu/ snack menu.
What could be improved: Although we had a good sized room, the shower was very small.
Breakfast had a good selection, but all of the hot food like pancakes, eggs, sausages that would normally be hot, were cold and did not appear to have any way of being kept warm.
Coffee in the room would be nice, as we only had Teas...
If you are susceptible to Mosquito bites, bring your insect repellent, as we were not even there 24 hours and were mullered with bites after first night eating in restaurant. The other times we ate indoors, but were still batting them away at dinner unfortunately :-(
The location is perfect although it was far from pienza and san gimignano (1 hour and a half by car)
But i choose it because it’s quite and to connect with nature
What could be improved: The shower was old .
Our room was full of aunts , but when i told the staff about it they give us another room which was so clean
What could be improved: There was a huge party (50th reunion?) there and parking was terrible when we returned from dinner (and the people arriving to the party with their cars were very rude, so much so that I felt a bit unsafe after being yelled at and gestured while getting into a tight spot by the gate. I was a bit concerned that my rental car would be damaged and had my son walk out with me after the party ended to move it.) The music was so loud until midnight or so that I had to use earplugs and we were not the closest room-wise. Anyone closer without earplugs or with children would not have been able to sleep. There should be some private parking reserved for registered guests or at least an explanation that there would be an event that night so be aware of the parking situation and noise. it was a Friday or Saturday night, but the music was ridiculously loud. Also to charge for the gym amenities is not worth what is available.
What could be improved: A bit noisy at the end of the shift of the restaurant, a lot of bottle and plates noise.
What could be improved: Temperature in the room too hot
