Tenuta Torre Rossa Farm & Apartments

You know what caught me off guard about Tenuta Torre Rossa? The silence. I mean, you’re technically still in Tuscany’s wine country, but once you turn off Via Naldino onto their property, it’s like someone turned down the volume on the world. The place sits on this working farm about 15 minutes south of Florence – close enough that you can actually see the Duomo’s dome glinting in the distance on clear mornings, but far enough that you’re surrounded by olive groves and vineyard rows instead of tour groups.

The apartments themselves are honestly better than I expected from the photos. They’ve got that rustic Tuscan thing going on without feeling like a theme park version of it – thick stone walls that actually keep things cool during those sweltering August afternoons, and kitchenettes that are properly equipped (I’m talking real knives and decent pans, not the usual apartment rental junk). The woman who runs the place, she’s local and has been there forever, knows exactly which unit gets the best sunset views and which one stays quietest if you’re trying to sleep in. She also makes this incredible jam from the property’s fig trees that she’ll sometimes leave in your fridge as a welcome gift.

What really sets this place apart though is the location within Impruneta itself. Most people just pass through on their way to the Chianti wine towns, but honestly? They’re missing out. The town center is maybe a 10-minute walk down the hill, and there’s this little osteria called Da Giuliano where the locals actually eat – not touristy at all, just solid Tuscan food and wine that costs about half what you’d pay in Florence. Plus, if you’re into ceramics or pottery, Impruneta is famous for its terracotta (that’s where a lot of Florence’s roof tiles come from), and there are still workshops you can visit. The Saturday market is worth timing your stay around too – proper farmers selling their own stuff, not imported nonsense.

The only minor downside is that you really need a car to make the most of it. I mean, there are buses to Florence, but they’re not super frequent, and if you want to explore the surrounding wine estates or hill towns, you’ll be pretty limited without wheels. Parking is free though, which is honestly a blessing after dealing with Florence’s ZTL zones. The property has this gravel area under some trees where you can leave your car, and I never worried about it being safe. Actually, the whole place has that relaxed, family-run feel where nothing’s overly formal but everything just works smoothly – check-in was easy, they answered questions quickly, and when our espresso maker broke, they had someone fix it within hours.
