Villa Bonsi
Montaione, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Villa Bonsi? It’s tucked right into the heart of Montaione on Via Matteotti, but somehow it feels completely removed from everything – which is exactly what you want when you’re trying to escape Florence’s summer crowds. I mean, this isn’t some sprawling resort complex; it’s more like staying at a really elegant friend’s place who happens to have impeccable taste and knows how to make you feel at home. The building itself has that authentic Tuscan thing going on without being kitschy about it – thick stone walls that actually keep things cool during those brutal July afternoons, and these gorgeous terracotta floors that feel amazing under bare feet.
What really gets me is how the staff here seems to actually live in the area and know it inside out. When I asked about hiking trails, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a generic map – he drew out this route that takes you through olive groves to this little chapel most tourists never find. And honestly, the 9.7 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there. The rooms are spacious (I had trouble filling mine even with all my overpacking), and the beds are seriously comfortable – none of that rock-hard European mattress situation you sometimes get. The bathrooms are modern but not sterile, with these beautiful local tiles and water pressure that’s actually decent. Oh, and parking is right there, which trust me, matters a lot when you’re navigating these narrow Tuscan streets with a rental car.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to explore the real Chianti region without fighting crowds. Montaione isn’t trying to be San Gimignano or Siena – it’s just this lovely working town where you can walk to a proper grocery store, grab coffee with locals at the bar on the corner, and still be within easy striking distance of all the big sights. Villa Bonsi sits right in the middle of it all, so you’re not stuck in some isolated agriturismo wondering where dinner’s coming from. The breakfast here is actually worth getting up for too – proper local cheese and prosciutto, fresh pastries from the bakery down the street, and coffee that doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around since yesterday. I stayed during shoulder season in May, and the whole place had this relaxed vibe where you could linger over breakfast without feeling rushed. Even the other guests seemed more genuine somehow – couples on anniversary trips, families with teenagers who weren’t complaining for once. It’s the kind of place where you find yourself planning your next visit before you’ve even checked out.

What could be improved: I don’t have anything bad to say about this property.
What could be improved: Can’t think of anything we didn’t like.
What could be improved: Everything was great
The apartment was very spacious and very clean. The bed and sofa bed were super comfortable and we slept very well!
At the end of the stay we were given some cantuccini made by someone who works at Villa Bonsi. They were delicious!

- Volterra, 30 km

Montaione itself is also very beautiful small village.
We slept really well, the rooms are really big and beautifully restored. It was true joy to stay Villa Bonsi.
We hope that we can come here again. Thank you so much.
What could be improved: -
What could be improved: Just some info, nothing that really bothered us. The 3 br apt has a kitchen/dinner/living area that is pretty small if you would stay inside with 6 people. There’s no sofa, it does have table chairs and 3 relaxing chairs though. It’s directly situated next to 1 of the bedrooms. 1 of the bathrooms is inside one of the bedrooms, the other one can be reached without entering any bedroom.
What could be improved: Nothing negative about this stay.
