Toscana da aMare
Cecina, ItalyYou know what? I’ve stayed at my fair share of hotels along the Tuscan coast, and Toscana da aMare honestly surprised me. Right there on Piazza della Libertà in Cecina, it’s got this perfect balance of being in the heart of things without feeling touristy or cramped. The piazza itself is actually where locals hang out in the evenings – you’ll see kids playing while their parents chat over aperitivos at the nearby bars, which gives you a real sense of the neighborhood.
The hotel itself feels like someone took a traditional Italian building and updated it just enough without losing its character. Check-in was smooth (they speak decent English if your Italian is rusty like mine), and I appreciated that they actually knew the area when I asked about restaurants. The rooms are comfortable in that understated Italian way – not flashy, but everything works and the beds are genuinely good. What I really loved was how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re right in the center. The piazza settles down after dinner, so you get the best of both worlds.
Here’s the thing about Cecina that makes this place special – it’s not overrun with tourists like some coastal towns, but you’re still only a quick walk to the beach. I mean, you can literally stroll down Via Aurelia to the shore in about ten minutes, and there are these great little spots for morning coffee along the way. The staff seemed to get this too – they’d casually mention which beaches were less crowded or where to find the best focaccia (there’s this place on Via Roma that’s incredible, by the way). During my stay in late spring, the weather was perfect for keeping the windows open, and you could hear the town waking up in the morning – market vendors setting up, the coffee machine hissing at the bar downstairs. It’s those little details that make you feel like you’re actually experiencing Italy, not just passing through it.
What really sealed it for me was the genuine hospitality. Not the over-the-top stuff you sometimes get, but that Italian warmth where they remember your name and ask how your day was. Parking was straightforward too – they sorted that out without any fuss, which honestly can be a nightmare in some Italian towns. The whole experience felt effortless in a way that only happens when a place is well-run but not trying too hard. If you’re looking for somewhere to base yourself for exploring this part of Tuscany, or just want to experience a real Italian town without the crowds, this is exactly what you want.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Assolutamente nulla!!!
What could be improved: Tutto
Stadtzentrum ist gleich nebenan super fußläufig. Zur Strandpromenade würde man an die 30 min zu Fuß gehn oder man fährt 6 min mit dem Auto. Es war wirklich ein toller Aufenthalt!
What could be improved: Sensazione da "Grande Fratello" per via delle telecamere all' ingresso dell' appartamento, comunque limitate alla zona comune ingresso/cucina
What could be improved: The shared kitchen has its pros and cons. Unfortunately, we met other guests (in separate rooms) who had cleaned the fridge of drinks and yogurts almost to zero. I didn't expect that you could take 20 bottles of water and iced tea and leave nothing for the other guests.
What could be improved: Nothing to dislike besides having to leave.
