You know what struck me first about this place? The name is longer than most Italian train station announcements, but honestly, it delivers on every single promise. I mean, when you’re walking down Via Oreste Marrucci – and trust me, you’ll walk right past number 12 the first time because these Tuscan buildings all look charmingly similar – you’re not expecting much from the outside. But then you get inside this apartment and it’s like someone took everything good about staying in Italy and condensed it into two perfectly appointed bedrooms.

The location is actually ridiculous in the best way possible. You’re literally in the heart of Cecina, which means you can stumble to that little pasticceria I kept seeing locals line up at every morning (I never got the name, but it’s maybe three doors down), and the evening passeggiata route runs right past your front door. The air conditioning – God bless whoever insisted on that – works like a dream, which you’ll appreciate because those upper floors can get pretty warm in summer. The terrazza is where I spent most of my mornings with coffee, watching the town wake up below. It’s not huge, but it’s perfectly sized for two people to sit comfortably without bumping elbows.

What really sets this apart from your typical hotel experience is how lived-in it feels. The two bathrooms (seriously, such a luxury when you’re traveling with someone) have actual water pressure, and there’s this attention to detail that makes you feel like you’re staying in someone’s carefully curated home rather than a rental. The kitchen area – well, you’re in Italy, so you’re going to eat out most of the time anyway – but having a proper fridge for wine and those amazing local peaches was perfect. I noticed the building can get a bit echoey in the evenings when families are coming home from dinner, but it’s that good kind of neighborhood noise that makes you feel part of the rhythm of the place. The host was incredibly responsive too, though I only needed to contact them once when I couldn’t figure out the somewhat temperamental front door lock. Parking can be tricky on Via Oreste Marrucci itself, but there’s usually space on the side streets if you don’t mind a two-minute walk. For a 4-star rating, this place punches way above its weight – that 9 out of 10 rating makes complete sense once you’ve spent a few nights here.
