Tenuta Villa Febea
Chiusi, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Tenuta Villa Febea? The complete silence when you step out of your car. I mean, you’re technically still in Chiusi, but this feels like you’ve driven into some secret corner of Tuscany that tourists haven’t discovered yet. The property sits on this gentle hillside where the only sounds are birds and maybe a distant church bell from town — which is actually just a few minutes away, but feels worlds apart.
The whole place used to be a noble estate, and honestly, they’ve done something pretty magical with the restoration. None of that over-the-top luxury hotel nonsense, just these gorgeous stone buildings that look like they’ve been there forever (because, well, they have). My room had these thick walls that kept everything perfectly cool even in July, and the bathroom — I’m not usually one to get excited about bathrooms, but the marble work was incredible. Local stone, the manager told me, quarried from somewhere near Montepulciano. The beds are seriously comfortable too, which matters more than people admit when they’re writing reviews.
What really sets this place apart is how they’ve managed to feel both secluded and connected. You can walk into Chiusi proper in about fifteen minutes if you want to grab dinner at one of the family-run trattorias (definitely try Da Piero if you go — locals eat there, which is always a good sign). Or you can just stay put and eat at their restaurant, which sources everything locally and changes the menu based on what’s actually in season. The wine list is heavy on Tuscan bottles you probably haven’t heard of, and the sommelier actually knows the vineyard owners personally. During truffle season in fall, they do these incredible tasting dinners that book up months ahead.
The pool area is where I spent most of my mornings — it’s got this infinity edge that looks out over olive groves and vineyards stretching toward Montepulciano. Early morning is the best time, before other guests wake up and when the light hits the Val di Chiana just right. They bring coffee and pastries poolside without you even asking, which is a nice touch. Parking is easy (important if you’re driving around Tuscany), and the staff somehow manages to be helpful without hovering. Check-in was smooth, though I’d recommend calling ahead if you’re arriving after 8 PM — it’s not a big corporate hotel with 24-hour desk service.
The location is actually perfect for exploring this part of Tuscany without dealing with Siena or Florence crowds. Pienza is maybe thirty minutes away, Montepulciano even closer, and you can day-trip to Orvieto or even Rome if you’re feeling ambitious. But honestly, you might just want to stay put, order another bottle of Vino Nobile, and watch the sunset from your terrace. That’s what Tenuta Villa Febea does best — it gives you permission to slow down in a place that feels authentically Italian, not like some Hollywood version of it.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: The mosquitoes, they are everywhere . Just that nothing else
