Agriturismo Le Anfore
Sarteano, ItalyYou know what surprised me most about Le Anfore? It’s not trying to be something it’s not. This place sits right on Via Oriato in Sarteano – and honestly, if you’ve never heard of Sarteano, you’re not alone, but that’s actually part of its charm. It’s this sleepy Tuscan hill town about 20 minutes from Chiusi, where the locals still stop to chat in the piazza and you can actually find parking (miracle in Italy, right?). The agriturismo itself feels like someone’s well-loved family property that they’ve opened up to guests – because that’s basically what it is. The rooms have that authentic farmhouse feel without being rustic to the point of inconvenience, if you know what I mean. Think exposed beams and terracotta floors, but also proper WiFi and bathrooms that actually work.
What really gets me is the breakfast situation – they serve it in this converted barn space that looks out over their olive groves, and I mean, you can literally see the trees they pressed your morning olive oil from. The woman who runs it (I think her name was Giulia?) makes this incredible jam from their own fruit trees, and she’ll tell you exactly which apricot tree it came from if you ask. The whole operation feels wonderfully small-scale in a way that’s getting harder to find. Now, I’ll be honest – the 7.2 rating makes sense because it’s not luxury in the polished hotel sense. The walls are a bit thin, so you might hear your neighbors, and the check-in process is… well, let’s call it relaxed. But if you’re looking for that authentic agriturismo experience where you’re actually staying on a working farm, this is it.
The location is pretty perfect for exploring this part of Tuscany – Pienza is maybe 30 minutes away, and you can hit Montepulciano for wine tasting without dealing with massive crowds. Sarteano itself has this great little restaurant called Da Gagliano (locals pronounce it “Dah GAH-lee-ah-no” – took me three tries) where they do this wild boar ragu that’s honestly better than anything I had in Florence. What I really appreciated was how quiet everything gets after about 9 PM – you can actually hear the countryside, which sounds cheesy but is incredibly restorative after months of city noise. The pool area is lovely in late afternoon when the light hits those cypress trees just right, though it gets pretty busy with families during peak summer. Overall, Le Anfore delivers on that fantasy of staying in the “real” Tuscany, complete with morning roosters and the smell of wood smoke from the kitchen. It’s not perfect, but it’s genuine – and honestly, that’s worth more than perfect marble bathrooms and concierge service.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: I would recommend to maintain the windows closed. During the night, there was wind and we heard windows being violently closed and opened by the wind.
What could be improved: Not the best view for the region however great place to relax . Breakfast basic but ok
What could be improved: Too much mosquitoes,no options for people with allergies or intolerance.
What could be improved: Place looks abandoned, sometimes we looked for information and couldn’t find anyone. people in reception are friendly but couldn’t speak English or French, and not much Italian. some guests should arrive in the other night and reception left a note about the keys but didn’t explain well. guests arrived, took with them the key of the whole hall of bedrooms and left to dinner. when we arrived at hotel we couldn’t come in. had a hard time trying to find someone in the property but there was nobody.. couldn’t get in touch with them neither. I had to call Booking to ask someone to come. at the meantime, after 1 hour waiting, guests arrived so we could enter. Sarteano is the closest city but it’s not a good option to go for dinner, went there 2 different days of the week and most of places were closed, even the city center was empty. we had already gone to Tuscany before so we know it can be a better experience.

What could be improved: The room was nice but would benefit from a kettle. The shower was poor with very poor water pressure. Breakfast was ok but could be improved.
What could be improved: Small room up a steep flight of stairs
What could be improved: the bed could be better and the fridge a lil bigger. but what I didn’t like was the lack of communication from people that work there. We arrive at 14:45, the lunch only goes till 15h and the chef already have left … so we didn’t have what to eat, they told us to go to the “city” and was totally and completely close and they knew it would be. the next night we got down to dinner and the restaurant was simply close and no one warn us that the restaurant of the hotel wouldn’t work on Tuesday. Us and another couple stayed without dinner AT ALL !! they went to the city that is also closed for dinners at Tuesdays … the four of us went sleep without dinner. If we knew that the restaurant of the hotel (that is with at least 10 people there at that time) wouldnt work that day we would have stayed longer at Pienza and dinner there !! That made me very angry … totally lack of consideration with the guest
What could be improved: I don’t think they cleaned our room before we arrived as there was still underwear under our bed from the previous guests🤔
What could be improved: We had concerns about the welfare of the penned animals kept on the property. We notified the staff who are working on it.
