Tenuta Moriano
Montespertoli, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Tenuta Moriano? It’s not trying to be something it’s not. This place sits quietly on Via Colle Di San Lorenzo, and honestly, if you’re not looking for it, you might drive right past – which is actually part of its charm. The Tuscan countryside around Montespertoli has this unhurried quality that the hotel seems to absorb, and I mean that in the best way possible.
The building itself has that weathered stone look that screams authentic Italy, not some Disney version of it. When you’re checking in, you’ll notice the lobby feels more like walking into someone’s well-appointed home than a typical hotel. The staff actually knows your name by day two, which surprised me since it’s not exactly a tiny boutique operation. I stayed here during late September (perfect timing, by the way – the summer crowds have cleared out but the weather’s still gorgeous), and the whole property had this relaxed vibe where you could hear church bells from the village center drifting over in the evening.
What really sets this place apart is how it handles that tricky balance between being polished enough for a special trip but comfortable enough that you’re not afraid to prop your feet up. The rooms are spacious – I mean, properly spacious, not that creative European definition of the word – and the beds are actually good. Like, sleep-until-10am good. The bathrooms have decent water pressure, which matters more than you’d think after a day of walking around Florence (about 30 minutes away if you’re driving, and yes, there’s plenty of parking). The pool area is where I spent most of my downtime, tucked away so you’re not staring at the parking lot but positioned to catch those incredible Tuscan sunsets that look almost fake they’re so perfect.
Location-wise, you’re right in the heart of Chianti country, which means the local wine isn’t just good – it’s ridiculous. The hotel can point you toward some family-run vineyards that don’t see busloads of tourists, and honestly, that alone might be worth the stay. Montespertoli itself is one of those places where the locals still outnumber the visitors, so when you walk down to the main square for an aperitivo, you’re getting the real deal. The hotel restaurant uses ingredients from farms you can literally see from your window, and while the menu isn’t massive, what they do make is spot-on.
If I’m being completely honest, this isn’t the place for people who want to be in the thick of everything – the nearest “action” is probably San Gimignano, about 20 minutes away. But if you want to experience Tuscany without fighting crowds for the perfect Instagram shot, Tenuta Moriano delivers. It’s got that 8.6 rating for good reason: solid service, beautiful setting, and the kind of authentic Italian experience that’s getting harder to find. Just don’t expect cutting-edge amenities or 24-hour room service – this is more about slowing down and remembering why you wanted to come to Italy in the first place.

Guest Reviews
We enjoyed the breakfast served each day. The staff is nice and helpful.
The room and pool was clean.
They have a buffet on Thursday night that is worth it in my opinion, discount for kids also.
Also did their cooking class, was a fun experience but could have been a bit better, you could see they haven’t done it many times. Im sure it gonna get better.
What could be improved: Could add a real shower so water dont get everything wet in the bathroom.
What could be improved: Nothing at all.
What could be improved: Everything was good
