Podere Benintendi
Certaldo, ItalyYou know what caught me off guard about Podere Benintendi? I honestly expected another cookie-cutter agriturismo when I first pulled up Via Montebello-Benintendi, but this place actually feels like someone’s carefully restored family estate – which, I mean, it probably was. The drive up gets a bit narrow (rental car companies probably hate this road), but once you’re there, you’re sitting in proper Tuscan countryside about 20 minutes from Certaldo’s medieval center. The setting is quietly spectacular without being showy about it, if that makes sense.
The rooms have that lived-in elegance that’s hard to fake – thick stone walls that keep things naturally cool, original wooden beams overhead, and windows that frame the rolling hills like postcards you’d actually want to send. I stayed in June and could hear absolutely nothing but cicadas and the occasional church bell from town. The bathrooms are modern enough (good water pressure, thank god) but they’ve kept the character intact. What really impressed me was the attention to details that guests actually notice – proper reading lights, outlets where you need them, and beds that don’t feel like they came from a hotel supply catalog. The breakfast spread changes based on what’s seasonal and local, which sounds precious but honestly just means better tomatoes and fruit that tastes like something.
Here’s the thing about this place that the photos don’t capture: it’s run by people who clearly live and breathe this stuff. The family behind it knows every hiking trail, every decent restaurant in the area (including the ones tourists never find), and they’ll casually mention when the local sagra is happening or which day the market in Certaldo is worth visiting. They’re not hovering – you can disappear for days if you want – but when you need recommendations, they’re giving you the real insider knowledge. The pool area is perfect for afternoon reading, and the gardens feel wild but intentional, like someone with actual taste has been tending them for years. Parking is easy, check-in was smooth, and the whole operation just feels… competent? That 9.4 rating makes complete sense when you’re there. It’s the kind of place where you find yourself extending your stay not because there’s tons to do on-site, but because it’s such a perfect base for exploring this part of Tuscany, and honestly, because leaving feels premature.

What could be improved: Gym needs a renovation
What could be improved: Nothing.
What could be improved: The air conditioner did not work in the room and it was cold
If we visit Tuscany again we will be sure to stay here.
Thank you for a lovely experience staying with you.
What could be improved: The only less good thing was that the shower had quite low pressure, also the WiFi was weak. But this didn’t make our stay less enjoyable!
