Solo Experience Hotel
Florence, ItalyLook, I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Solo Experience Hotel, I was skeptical. I mean, the name sounds like something a marketing team dreamed up, right? But walking up to Via Canto De Nelli, tucked into this quiet corner of San Lorenzo, I actually got it. This isn’t one of those sterile business hotels or tourist traps near the Duomo. It’s more like… well, imagine if your really well-traveled friend had a spare apartment in Florence and actually cared about making your stay perfect.
The location is what sold me first. You know how most Florence hotels either dump you in the chaos around Santa Maria Novella or stick you way out where you need three buses to get anywhere decent? Not here. You’re literally a five-minute walk to the Mercato Centrale – and I’m talking about the real market downstairs, not just the touristy food court upstairs that everyone raves about. Plus, you can cut through to the historic center without fighting the Via de’ Tornabuoni crowds. The staff actually gave me this insider route through some side streets that I never would’ve found on my own.
What really gets me is the attention to detail that you don’t expect from a four-star place. The rooms have this lived-in elegance – not shabby, but not trying too hard either. The beds are seriously comfortable (I’m picky about this stuff), and the bathrooms have those little touches that make you think someone actually stayed here themselves before opening. The breakfast isn’t some sad continental spread either; they’ve got local pastries from a bakery around the corner, and the coffee is… well, it’s Florence, so of course it’s good, but they actually know how to make it properly. You won’t find any of those horrible hotel lobby espresso machines here.
Honestly, the 9-star rating makes sense once you’ve been there a day or two. It’s not flashy – you won’t be posting Instagram shots of some infinity pool or marble lobby. But you’ll sleep well, the neighborhood feels authentic without being sketchy, and you’ll probably end up chatting with other guests who clearly did their research too. The evening vibe in San Lorenzo is perfect for that post-dinner wandering you do in Italy, when you’re too full for gelato but somehow end up getting it anyway. Just don’t expect much action after 11 PM unless you’re heading toward Santa Croce – but honestly, that’s part of the charm. You get the real Florence rhythm instead of the tourist circus.
