San Martino Suite
I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to San Martino Suite on Via San Martino, I wasn’t expecting much from the street view. It’s tucked into this residential stretch that feels more like where locals actually live rather than touristy hotel row. But you know what? That turned out to be exactly what made it special.
The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of “oh, okay, they really thought about this.” The suites – and they actually are proper suites, not just hotel rooms with a fancy name – have this perfect balance of feeling Italian without being kitschy about it. The owner clearly knows the difference between authentic and theatrical, if that makes sense. What really got me was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re only about a 15-minute walk from the cathedral area. I mean, Via San Martino isn’t exactly a main drag, but it’s residential enough that you hear normal neighborhood sounds – maybe some evening conversation from the street, the occasional Vespa – rather than tourist chaos or complete silence that feels weird in a city.
The practical stuff matters too, and honestly, they’ve nailed most of it. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward (none of that drawn-out hotel lobby performance), and parking… well, you’re in Pisa, so street parking is what it is, but the location actually works better than staying right in the center for getting in and out of the city. The cleaning staff clearly takes pride in their work – I noticed fresh touches daily that went beyond just new towels. There’s this attention to small details that you don’t always get, even at higher-rated places. The kitchen setup in the suites is actually functional, not just decorative, which saved me from eating out every single meal. And the Wi-Fi worked properly throughout the space, which honestly shouldn’t be noteworthy in 2024 but somehow still is. The 8.9 rating makes total sense when you add it all up – it’s not trying to be a luxury resort, but it delivers on what it promises without cutting corners. If you want to experience Pisa like you’re staying in a really nice apartment rather than obviously being a tourist, this is your spot.
