La casa in Camollia
First Impressions
Walking up Via Camollia toward the historic center, you’ll spot La casa in Camollia tucked into one of Siena‘s most charming medieval streets. This four-star boutique property immediately caught my attention β not because it screams for it, but because it fits so naturally into the ancient stonework around it. The entrance feels like you’re stepping into someone’s elegant Tuscan home rather than a typical hotel, which honestly sets the tone for everything that follows.
Location Magic
Here’s what I love about this spot β you’re literally minutes from Piazza del Campo on foot, but you’re staying on a quieter street that locals actually use. Via Camollia is one of those ancient roads that pilgrims once traveled, and you can still feel that history when you walk it early in the morning. The couples who stay here get it (they rate the location 9.6, and I totally understand why). You can grab morning coffee at the little bar down the street, then wander into the main tourist areas when you’re ready, but retreat back to this peaceful corner when the crowds get overwhelming.
The Accommodation
My room had that perfect balance of historical character and modern comfort that’s actually hard to find in Siena. The ceilings had those beautiful exposed beams you expect in a medieval building, but the bathroom was completely updated with excellent water pressure β you know how rare that can be in these old Italian properties. The windows looked out onto the street, and I mean, there’s something magical about watching early morning light hit those ancient stone walls while you’re having your first espresso of the day.
What Makes It Special
The staff here really knows Siena, and I don’t mean just the obvious tourist stuff. They pointed me toward a tiny enoteca around the corner that I never would have found on my own, and suggested the best times to visit the Duomo when it’s less crowded. The property itself feels more like a carefully restored townhouse than a commercial hotel β there’s attention to detail in the furnishings and artwork that shows someone actually cares about this place. The common areas have this warm, lived-in feeling that makes you want to linger with a glass of wine in the evening.
Why Guests Love It
That 9.3 rating makes complete sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s the kind of place where everything just works without feeling overly polished or impersonal. You’re staying in the real heart of Siena, not some modern hotel district, but you’re not sacrificing comfort for authenticity. The location score of 9.7 tells the whole story β you can explore the city on foot, duck back for an afternoon rest, then head out for dinner without ever needing to think about transportation. For couples especially, there’s something romantic about staying on this historic street while still being steps away from everything that makes Siena special.
Hotels in Tuscany crown hilltowns, olive groves, and Renaissance palazzi perfumed with rosemary.
