Residenza Anton Doni
First Impressions
Walking up to Residenza Anton Doni on a quiet side street, you’d honestly never guess what awaits inside. The entrance is understated — almost secretive in that wonderful Italian way — but step through those doors and you’re immediately struck by how thoughtfully everything’s been designed. This four-star boutique property feels more like staying in a sophisticated Florentine home than a traditional hotel, which I suppose is exactly the point.
The Santa Maria Novella Advantage
Here’s what I love about this location in Florence — you’re tucked away on Via Anton Francesco Doni, so it’s peaceful enough to actually sleep well, but you can walk to the Duomo in about ten minutes. The Santa Maria Novella train station is practically around the corner, which honestly saved me when I had an early departure. You know what’s really nice though? The couples who stay here consistently rave about the neighborhood, and I get it — there’s something romantic about these narrow streets lined with local cafés and artisan shops that tourists haven’t completely discovered yet.
The Room Experience
My room had this perfect blend of contemporary comfort and Florentine character that’s actually hard to pull off. The attention to detail was impressive — I mean, even the lighting felt considered, warm enough for evening but bright enough to read by. The bathroom was modern and spacious (not always a given in historic Florence), and the bed was genuinely comfortable. What struck me most was how quiet everything was despite being in the city center — good windows and solid walls make all the difference when you’re trying to recover from a day of museum hopping.
Daily Rhythms and Amenities
The staff here operates with that effortless Italian hospitality that feels genuine rather than scripted. They’re incredibly knowledgeable about Florence — not just the obvious tourist spots, but where locals actually go for aperitivo or the best gelato that isn’t overrun with crowds. The property itself is intimate, which means you get personalized attention without feeling like you’re being hovered over. There’s no massive restaurant or flashy amenities, but honestly, you’re in Florence — the entire city is your amenity.
Why Guests Love It
With a 9.6 rating, this place clearly gets something right, and I think it’s the balance they’ve struck. You’re getting boutique hotel sophistication without the pretension, prime location without the chaos, and personal service without the premium price tag of some five-star properties. The fact that couples consistently rate the location so highly tells you something — this is the kind of place where you can slip away from the tourist masses but still be in the heart of everything that makes Florence magical. It’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in the city, just one of the most thoughtfully executed.
Apartments in Tuscany suit slow travelers with stone fireplaces, countryside terraces, and farmhouse kitchens.

Guest Reviews
Also the flat is very close to the metro, bus stops and there is a great bakery on the street behind. We were also happy to have a coffee machine and cookies in the room :D And everything was super clean :)
Francesco was kind and gave us great recommendations of areas to look for food and how to spend our first day.
It was a great little home for us and base to explore Florence.
The window for the shower was also a perk!
Although slightly further out of town, trams were great & stop was directly across the road.
Spacious room & living area.
Refreshments available too.
The host did an exceptional job. Very friendly, always in contact, always willing to help. He left a few complementary drinks for us, biscuits to start the day (also included gluten free options!), a map for the city, and many great recommendations.
The place itself was really good too. Everything was tidy, clean and comfy!
