First Impressions

Walking up to Piazza Pitti Palace – Residenza d’Epoca honestly feels like stepping into a Florentine fairy tale. I mean, you’re literally standing in Piazza Pitti, staring at the massive Pitti Palace across the square — it’s one of those moments where you have to pinch yourself. This four-star boutique property occupies a historic building that’s been transformed into something really special, and you can feel that history in every corner. The entrance might be understated, but once you’re inside, the elegant period details and carefully restored interiors make it clear this isn’t your typical hotel.

Location Magic

You know what’s brilliant about staying here? You’re in the Santo Spirito neighborhood, which locals consider the real heart of Florence — not the touristy areas where most hotels cluster. The Oltrarno district has this authentic, lived-in feel that’s getting harder to find in the city center. Couples absolutely love it here (they rate the location 9.9, which is basically unheard of), and I totally get why. You can walk to the Uffizi in about eight minutes, but you’re also surrounded by artisan workshops, cozy wine bars, and that neighborhood bakery where Florentines actually buy their bread.

The Rooms

The room I stayed in had these gorgeous original frescoed ceilings and windows that looked directly onto the piazza — honestly, waking up to that view never got old. What really impressed me though were the beds, and I’m someone who usually struggles to sleep well when traveling. They’ve clearly invested in quality mattresses and linens, because I slept like a baby every single night. The bathrooms are modern but respectful of the building’s character, with marble touches that feel authentic rather than flashy. Each space feels more like a carefully curated apartment than a standard hotel room.

Practical Perks

Here’s something that’ll save you headaches — they actually have private parking available, which is gold in Florence’s historic center. Most places either don’t offer it or charge ridiculous rates, so this is a real advantage if you’re driving. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood and can point you toward the best gelato spot (it’s not the famous one all the tourists line up for) or recommend which evening to visit Santo Spirito’s night market. They’re also incredibly helpful with dinner reservations, which matters more than you’d think in a city where the good local places fill up fast.

Why Guests Love It

What sets this place apart is how it balances that authentic Florentine experience with genuine comfort — you’re not sacrificing modern amenities for historic charm. The location score of 9.8 isn’t just numbers on a screen; it reflects how perfectly positioned you are to experience Florence like someone who actually lives here. Whether you’re planning romantic evening strolls across the Ponte Vecchio or want to explore the Boboli Gardens right behind the palace, everything feels effortlessly accessible. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve discovered a secret that other travelers haven’t figured out yet.

The room and bed were very clean and comfortable. The room was beautifully decorated and looked out onto the Pitti Palace. The bathroom was large and modern. The location was perfect being close to many of the sites we wished to visit, including the Pitti Palace, Uffizi, the Academia, and Palazio Vecchio.

We booked the Imperial Suite, with a balcony and 431 sq ft in the description. This is the Palatina Suite, which is the only suite with a balcony; and it was fantastic! The suite has two beautiful, good-sized rooms. We fully enjoyed the balcony (overlooking the Piazza Pitti Palace) with coffee in the morning, and a glass of wine in the late afternoon. I'm sure all the rooms are nice, but if the Palatina Suite is available when you book, I highly recommend choosing it for the balcony experience. This suite also has an excellent air-conditioning system. The front desk staff are friendly and very helpful.

It was very well situated in a great location. Away from the madding crowds - more bars and restaurants for the locals. And so beautiful inside.
