Palazzo Mosela Alla Porta
Montepulciano, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Palazzo Mosela Alla Porta? The fact that it sits right on Via di Gracciano nel Corso – which is basically Montepulciano’s main drag – but somehow doesn’t feel touristy at all. I mean, you’re literally walking distance from everything that matters in this hilltop town, yet the moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of stepping back in time. The building itself has that authentic Tuscan palazzo feel that most places just can’t fake, with thick stone walls that actually keep the summer heat out (trust me, you’ll appreciate this in July).
The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience Montepulciano like a local. You’re maybe a two-minute walk from the Duomo, and all those wine bars and enotecas that make this town famous are practically on your doorstep. What I really loved though was how the staff seemed to know every shopkeeper and restaurant owner in the area – they’d casually mention that “Marco at the alimentari down the street has the best pecorino today” or suggest hitting up specific wine cellars during the quieter afternoon hours when you can actually talk to the owners. The kind of insider knowledge you just don’t get at chain hotels.
The rooms themselves feel substantial – and I don’t just mean spacious (though they are), but the walls are proper thick stone, so you’re not hearing every conversation from the corridor. Sleep quality was genuinely excellent, which matters when you’re walking these steep medieval streets all day. The bathrooms are modern without being jarring – they managed to update everything without losing that old-world character. Honestly, the only minor thing I’d mention is that the WiFi can be a bit spotty in some rooms, but then again, you’re in one of Italy’s most beautiful hill towns, so maybe that’s not the worst problem to have. The 8.9 rating feels about right – it’s the kind of place that delivers exactly what it promises without trying too hard to impress you with unnecessary extras. You’re here for Montepulciano, and this hotel gets you right into the heart of it without any fuss.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Breakfast is served in a separate café a few steps away. The breakfast selection is very modest - you only get one coffee or tea, one juice and one pastry.
Center of Montepulciano with easy access to shopping, food, tours.
Daily breakfast was provided at a local cafe which was very convenient.
What could be improved: It was pretty noisy from people enjoying food and wine at nite.
Street noise wafts upstairs in the evening until folks turn in for the nite .
What could be improved: No elevator
What could be improved: The activities sold by the staff are overpriced, the prices are much higher than if you book the activities yourself
The breakfast was served a few doors down at a cafeteria which was excellent in its own right. The staff called and ordered a taxi for the very early departure the next day and the breakfast canteen prepared a take out lunch for travel the next day. Could not be happier
What could be improved: There’s a small amount of noise from outside as the hotel is by a historic gate into the town but this is minimal when delivery vans need to access Montepulciano at breakfast time.
