Palazzo Falcinelli Luxury Room in Montepulciano Center with Air Conditioning and Elevator
Montepulciano, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Palazzo Falcinelli? Walking up Via del Poggiolo, you’re basically climbing into the heart of old Montepulciano – I mean, you’re literally fifteen steps from the main drag, but somehow it feels tucked away from all the tourist chaos. The building itself is this gorgeous Renaissance palazzo that’s been converted into apartments, and honestly, having an elevator in a place this old is kind of a miracle (trust me, after a day of walking Montepulciano’s steep streets, you’ll appreciate not hauling luggage up four flights of stone stairs).
The room I stayed in was what I’d call “elegant without trying too hard” – high ceilings with original beams, those thick stone walls that keep things surprisingly cool even in July, though the air conditioning was actually pretty robust when the afternoon sun got intense. What really got me was the attention to detail… the furniture felt substantial, not like those flimsy hotel pieces you’re afraid to lean on, and the bathroom had this fantastic rainfall shower that I definitely didn’t want to leave. The windows look out onto the narrow street, and I loved hearing the locals chatting as they walked by in the evenings – it felt authentic, you know? Not like some sanitized hotel experience where you’re isolated from the real life of the town.
Location-wise, you’re basically winning the lottery here. The Piazza Grande is maybe a three-minute walk uphill, and if you head downhill, you’ll hit some of the best wine bars in town – there’s this little enoteca called Cantine Contucci that’s practically around the corner where the owner will pour you tastings of their Vino Nobile until you’re best friends. I also discovered that staying right in the center means you can easily duck back to the room during the midday heat (which, let’s be honest, can be brutal in summer) and then head out again for the evening passeggiata when the whole town comes alive. The only minor thing I’d mention is that weekend nights can get a bit lively with people walking past – but honestly, it’s more charming than disruptive, and the thick walls keep most of the sound out anyway. The host was incredibly responsive too, which matters when you’re navigating a historic building in a medieval town where your GPS might send you down a dead-end alley.

Guest Reviews
We expected the stairs up to our room in advance based on previous reviews so didn’t take our suitcases and packed a small overnight bag, which was definitely the best choice as made it very easy. Also you wouldn’t want to drag a big suitcase around this town either as very hilly, although there was parking relatively close. We just took a wrong turn and couldn’t find it!!!
An absolute must visit is La Grotta for dinner, one of the best restaurants on our Italian road trip.
What could be improved: The small windows, but it was still incredibly light and bright in the mornings.
What could be improved: Parking instructions especially given that Parking 6 gets so busy. Alternatives should be given or recommendations to come by taxi! Coffee machine was not the cleanest and the instructions are incorrect - we had to google it.
What could be improved: Very hilly location so need for better information where to park and how to find the apartment .
What could be improved: I didn't like that we were able to hear the occupants of the room next/up from us. As we sat in the living room we can hear VERY CLEARLY what was going on i.e. coughing, sneezing among other sounds. My comment here is based on our stay. Your stay may be different. Out of respect for other occupants, I don't know if this location would be suitable for families with young children. Our bedroom noise was fine as it was on the opposite side of the room. I would also recommend having a small safe inside the room.
What could be improved: Not a problem for us, but a lot of stairs from car park to the apartment.
