Palazzo Alfieri – Place of Charme
Florence, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Palazzo Alfieri? The location is absolutely perfect – I mean, you’re literally on Lungarno Corsini, which honestly feels like Florence’s best-kept secret among the river streets. While everyone’s fighting crowds on the Ponte Vecchio, you’re maybe a three-minute walk away but in this surprisingly peaceful spot that actually feels… well, Italian rather than touristy.
The building itself has that authentic Florentine palazzo feel – none of that over-the-top fake Renaissance stuff you sometimes get. When I walked in, there was this lovely smell of old wood and something floral (maybe from the courtyard?), and the lobby felt intimate rather than grand. Actually, intimate might be the perfect word for the whole place. With just 27 rooms, you’re not going to get lost in hotel hell, and the staff genuinely seemed to remember guests’ names after a day or two. The rooms themselves are what I’d call “thoughtfully comfortable” – not massive, but then again, you’re in a historic center where every square meter costs a fortune. Mine had these gorgeous high ceilings and windows that opened (!) to let in actual fresh air, which you don’t always get in Florence hotels.
Here’s what I really appreciated – the neighborhood comes alive in the evenings when the day-trippers head back to their cruise ships. You can walk to Santo Spirito for dinner (maybe ten minutes through streets that feel properly local), or just stroll along the Arno when the light gets golden. The Santa Maria Novella train station is close enough to be convenient but far enough that you don’t hear announcements or deal with the chaos. Parking is… well, it’s Florence, so forget about driving, but there’s a decent garage nearby if you absolutely must. I actually saw guests using the hotel’s bike service, which seemed smart – Florence traffic is insane but the bike lanes along the river are lovely. One small thing – the WiFi was solid throughout the building, which honestly matters more than fancy marble these days. The breakfast was Italian-style (so don’t expect American portions), but the coffee was excellent and they had local pastries that tasted like they came from an actual bakery rather than a hotel kitchen. Overall, this feels like the kind of place where you’d bring someone you wanted to impress with your Florence knowledge – sophisticated without being stuffy, well-located without being obvious, and comfortable in that effortless Italian way that’s harder to pull off than it looks.

What could be improved: Nothing!
What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: Rooms need renovation, not bright.
Breakfast is average, not enough hot options, or cereal. Also, I dislike self-service coffee machines
What could be improved: Room was a bit smaller than the pictures, but they help us in the reception. They gave us a good upgrade due to the room was having an issue.
