nautilus b&b suite design
Follonica, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Nautilus B&B Suite Design? The name actually makes sense once you’re inside – there’s this really thoughtful, almost ship-like attention to detail in how they’ve designed each suite. It’s tucked away on Via Rossini, which honestly I’d never heard of before visiting Follonica, but it turns out to be this quiet residential street just a few blocks back from the main beachfront chaos. Smart location, really – you’re close enough to walk to the beach in maybe three minutes, but you won’t hear drunk tourists stumbling around at 2 AM.
The suites themselves are… well, they’re pretty spectacular for a four-star place. I mean, each one feels more like a carefully curated apartment than a hotel room. The owner (I think his name was Marco?) clearly has an eye for design – there’s this mix of modern Italian furniture with these unexpected nautical touches that could’ve been cheesy but somehow works perfectly. The bathroom in my suite had this amazing rainfall shower, and honestly, the water pressure was better than what I have at home. Little things like that matter when you’re trying to rinse off beach sand, you know? The kitchenette was actually functional too, not just decorative – I made coffee there every morning and picked up fresh bread from the bakery down on Via Bicocchi.
What really sets this place apart though is how quiet it gets at night. Follonica can be pretty lively during peak season (avoid July if you want peace and quiet), but back on Rossini it’s just locals going about their evening routines. I’d leave my windows open and fall asleep to the sound of someone’s TV murmuring in Italian from across the courtyard – sort of romantic, actually. The breakfast situation is more continental than elaborate, but they source everything locally and the woman who runs the morning service makes these incredible cornetti that are still warm when she sets them out. Parking was surprisingly easy too – there’s a small lot behind the building that most guests don’t seem to know about, so I never had to circle around looking for street parking like I did at other places along the coast.
The 9.5 rating isn’t just inflated booking site nonsense – this place genuinely gets the details right. Check-in was smooth (they actually waited for me when my train was delayed), the WiFi worked everywhere including the little terrace area, and when I mentioned I was hoping to find good seafood, they pointed me toward this family-run place on Via Colombo that definitely wasn’t in any guidebook. It’s the kind of spot where you feel like you’re staying with friends who happen to have impeccable taste, rather than just renting a room for the night.

Guest Reviews
We absolutely loved everything about our stay. The staff, Cristiana, Lorena, and Cristiana are always so welcoming, friendly and caring. We looked forward to breakfast every morning where we were always greeted with smiles and lovely conversations. There are many choices available for breakfast and we can honestly say that our breakfast here was delicious and our favourite meal of the day. I often chose pear juice, a croissant full of custard cream, blueberry yoghurt, scrambled eggs on toasted Tuscan flatbread and a cappuccino. Much more than I eat for breakfast at home but it was always so good, I couldn’t resist. We were also provided with as much bottled water that we wanted everyday. After returning for our second stay later in June we were so warmly welcomed back. We felt like we were coming home to family. Our accommodation was beautiful, comfortable and very clean. We loved being able to control the air conditioning temperature of our living area and our bedroom independently. We also loved the rainfall and waterfall shower with the many tiny colour changing lights in the shower ceiling. If we return to Italy, we will definitely stay here again. Everything about this property is perfect, especially the owner and her staff who will do anything to make your stay comfortable and really enjoyable.
What could be improved: Honestly, there was nothing we didn’t like about the property.
My suite was light, airy and spacious, and was a perfect retreat after a day of exploring. I especially loved starting my mornings with breakfast on the balcony or rooftop, enjoying the beautiful views.
Cristiana and Martina went above and beyond as hosts, making me feel incredibly welcome from the moment I arrived. Their local recommendations truly enhanced my stay and there are B&B-affiliated discounts across a range of eateries and experiences nearby. The whole team were warm and friendly too.
This is the perfect stay for anyone looking for convenience, comfort and a personalised touch.
