I stayed in late September and it was perfect – warm days for hiking, cool evenings for sitting outside with a glass of local wine. The whole Lunigiana region is sort of overlooked by tourists rushing between the Cinque Terre and Florence, which means you get these incredible medieval castles and ancient villages practically to yourself.
