First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Godiolo, honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this four-star property tucked away on Via Di Martiena. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries are the ones that don’t announce themselves with flashy facades. The building has this understated elegance that feels authentically Tuscan — none of that over-the-top tourist trap vibe you get in some parts of Montepulciano. There’s free parking right on site, which might not sound exciting, but trust me, after navigating those narrow medieval streets with a rental car, you’ll appreciate not having to hunt for a spot.

The Location Magic

Here’s the thing about Godiolo’s location — it’s positioned perfectly for couples who want that romantic Tuscan experience without being right in the thick of the tourist crowds. I mean, you’re still close enough to walk to the main piazzas and wine bars, but far enough away that you actually get some peace in the evenings. The locals clearly know something we tourists are just catching on to, because this spot consistently gets rave reviews from people who’ve actually stayed here. You can slip out for morning coffee at one of the neighborhood cafés before the day-trippers arrive, then retreat back to your quiet corner when things get busy.

The Room Experience

My room had that perfect balance of traditional Tuscan character and modern comfort that’s surprisingly hard to find. The stone walls and wooden beams give you that authentic feel, but the bathroom is completely updated and the Wi-Fi actually works — little things that matter when you’re trying to share those sunset photos. The beds are genuinely comfortable, not just hotel-marketing comfortable, and the windows frame views that make you want to linger over your morning espresso. Actually, the whole place feels more like staying in a well-appointed Italian home than a typical hotel.

Exploring from Here

What I really appreciated was how easy it became to explore Montepulciano’s wine scene from Godiolo. You’re within walking distance of some excellent enotecas, and the staff — who clearly live in the area — gave me recommendations that felt genuine rather than rehearsed. The evening passeggiata route passes right by the hotel, so you can people-watch from your window or join the locals for their traditional evening stroll. There’s also a decent restaurant nearby that doesn’t cater exclusively to tourists, which is honestly refreshing in a town that can feel pretty commercialized during peak season.

Why Guests Love It

Look, Godiolo isn’t trying to be the fanciest place in town, and that’s exactly why it works so well. The 9.3 rating reflects what you actually experience — solid comfort, genuine hospitality, and a location that lets you experience Montepulciano like someone who belongs there rather than just passing through. Couples especially seem to get it, probably because there’s something inherently romantic about discovering a place that feels like your own little secret. It’s the kind of spot where you end up extending your stay because leaving feels premature.

Savvy travelers reserve a hotel in Tuscany before olive harvests fill pressing rooms with aromatic queues.

This is an AMAZING farm stay. The photos do not quite do the view justice. We just bought my engagement ring on this trip and took some truly stunning photos right outside of the front door. The view from nearly every window is stunning. One moment you are watching the mist roll through the valley, and the next a breath-taking sunset. It is walkable to the city center (up a hill, so wear cute sneakers or something). But you get the rustic farm feeling and stunning views with the convenience of being close to town. We had one of our best wine tastings here too, so make sure to schedule one! The hosts are super accommodating, and it truly is a family-run place. We would LOVE to come back some day.

We had coffee and a pastry we bought at the local conad store. The kitchen was well stocked with silverware, bottle openers, coffee, etc.. We received a bottle of wine when we checked in. Matteo was a great host. It was late the 1st night and he gave us excellent suggestions for dinner in Montepulciano. He helped us with a map for parking areas. Loved waking up to the countryside! We had a great wine tasting with Matteo, our host. I am ready to go back next year.

It was an extremely cozy stay with amazing view over the hills and wine yards. We got a larger apartment with a kitchen that had everything we needed to cook our own dinner and breakfast. It was sunny during our stay, so perfect to have a pool area where we could relax and take a swim. It was close to Montepulciano city center, which we could reach both by a walk (approximately 15-20 minutes) and once we were a bit lazy and took the car in and parked in the city center.

We were very welcomed on our arrival and the service were great!

Lovely property with beautiful views and exceptional craftsmanship. We enjoyed the pool after long days of exploring the countryside. I hope to be able to return one day. Recommend to someone looking to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle to city life.
