Casa Luna – Private Cottage -Exclusive Private Garden
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Casa Luna – Private Cottage -Exclusive Private Garden, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from the name alone. But walking through that garden gate? It immediately made sense. This four-star property sits tucked away on Via della Fontana in Barga, and you know what struck me first — the complete privacy. It’s like having your own little slice of Tuscany, which I suppose is exactly the point.
The Setting
Barga itself is one of those medieval hilltop towns that feels almost too perfect to be real, perched in the Serchio Valley with views that stretch toward the Apuan Alps. What I love about Casa Luna’s location is that you’re close enough to walk into the historic center — maybe ten minutes if you don’t mind a gentle uphill stroll — but far enough removed that you actually feel like you’re staying somewhere special rather than just another tourist spot. The parking situation is brilliant too (and free, which honestly surprised me given how tricky parking can be in these old Italian towns).
Your Private Retreat
The cottage itself feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a typical hotel room. I mean, you’ve got this entire private garden that’s genuinely exclusive — not shared with other guests or anything like that. The space has character without being overly rustic, if that makes sense. There’s a proper kitchen setup, which came in handy when I picked up some local ingredients from Barga’s weekly market. The whole place just flows well, and you can tell someone put real thought into making it feel like a home rather than just accommodation.
Why Couples Keep Coming Back
I can absolutely see why couples rate this place so highly — it scored a 9.9 for romantic getaways, and after spending time here, that doesn’t surprise me at all. There’s something about having your own private outdoor space in Tuscany that just works for romance. Whether you’re having morning coffee in the garden or opening a bottle of local wine as the sun sets behind the mountains, it feels intimate in a way that hotel rooms simply can’t match. The hiking trails that start practically from your doorstep don’t hurt either — we found some incredible paths that wind through olive groves and lead to viewpoints most tourists never see.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets Casa Luna apart is that perfect balance between privacy and accessibility. You’re not isolated in the middle of nowhere, but you’re also not dealing with crowds or noise. Barga has this wonderful mix of authentic Italian life and just enough infrastructure for travelers — good restaurants, a decent grocery store, and those incredible views that make every photo look like a postcard. The 9.8 overall rating reflects what I experienced: a place that delivers on its promises without any unpleasant surprises. It’s the kind of spot where you actually relax rather than just tick boxes on a sightseeing list.
Apartments in Tuscany suit slow travelers with stone fireplaces, countryside terraces, and farmhouse kitchens.

Great to have a garden and the view was stunning
That spur-of-the-moment decision was rewarded on our first encounter with Maraica, the energetic and enthusiastic agent who was waiting for us at the apartment to explain everything we needed to know in her beautiful Scottish lilt.
It was such a warm and friendly welcome to the home which has been thoughtfully renovated, decorated and equipped with everything you need while travelling.
Often it’s the small features that matter and Casa Luna excelled here with its bedside USB points, super-soft bed, quality linen, fluffy towels, comfortable lounge, and personal amenities including new toothbrushes (in case you forget yours). There was even a guitar ready to play much to my husband’s delight.
Later that afternoon we found ourselves in the supermarket in front of the shelves of vino rosso. A friendly and cheerful man beside us suggested (in a Scottish accent) that we choose a particular bottle “on special and a great drop”.
He was wearing a motorcycling t-shirt and we got chatting, comparing motorbikes, then music and travels, enjoying each other’s stories in the middle of the aisles.
Next thing, Maraica greeted us and said “I see you’ve met Paul!” Unbeknown to us both, Paul owns and renovated the apartment we were staying in. Such a lovely and unexpected coincidence.
We had a wonderful time in the apartment and the town, enjoying some great walks, meals and wine. Thanks for the memories (and the sneak peak at your toy collection Paul).
Highly recommended.
Kitchen was fully equipped. Fresh fruit was provided as well as a bottle of prosecco and some beers in the fridge which was much appreciated and enjoyed out in the courtyard with a stunning view!
Extra toiletries were also supplied in the bathroom.
Barga is so beautiful you might not spend much time in the apartment, but if you're home of an evening then there is also Netflix to enjoy.
Last but definitely not least, Maraica who checked us in and out is an absolute star and a lot of fun too! Thank you!
They took care of my parking, escorted me from the parking lot to the apartment, helped with the things,
Show me everything there is to know,
The kitchen is pampering with a coffee machine and milk frother, clean pots, lots of dishes, a pleasure to cook, drink coffee, rest.
They asked how I was doing during my stay, took care of me like parents.
