Cavarchino B&B
Gaiole in Chianti, ItalyLook, I’ve stayed at plenty of places in Chianti over the years, and Cavarchino B&B on Via Vertine is honestly one of those finds that makes you want to keep it secret. You know what I mean? It’s tucked away in this tiny medieval village outside Gaiole – the kind of spot where you’ll actually hear church bells in the morning instead of traffic.
The thing about this place is that it feels like staying at someone’s beautifully restored family home, which I suspect it actually was at some point. The rooms have that perfect balance of old Tuscan character (think exposed beams and terracotta floors) but with modern bathrooms that actually work – no weird European shower situations here. What really got me was waking up to views of actual vineyards rolling right up to the property. I mean, you’re literally surrounded by Chianti Classico territory, and you can walk to a couple of small wineries if you’re into that sort of thing.
The breakfast situation is worth mentioning because it’s not your typical hotel buffet nonsense. They do this whole spread of local stuff – proper prosciutto from nearby Radda, fresh bread that I’m pretty sure comes from the bakery in Gaiole, and coffee that doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around for hours. The owners (I think they’re a local family) actually know the area and can point you toward the good restaurants in town, not just the touristy ones. Parking is easy too, which anyone who’s driven through these hill towns will appreciate – there’s space right there, no circling around narrow streets with rental car anxiety.
Honestly, the location is what makes this place special. You’re close enough to Gaiole’s center to walk there for dinner (maybe ten minutes down the hill), but far enough out that you get that peaceful countryside feeling. Siena’s about 40 minutes if you want to do the big city thing, but really, this is where you come to slow down. The whole area gets pretty quiet after dinner – no late-night noise, just maybe some crickets and the occasional car heading home from the local trattoria. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find yourself sitting outside with a glass of wine, watching the light change over the vineyards, and actually relaxing for once.

Guest Reviews
The location was beautiful!
What could be improved: Fairly basic given the price.
What could be improved: NA
The rooms are adequate and comfortable.
What could be improved: There was nothing to dislike. My only small comment is that we didn't have enough drawer space to unpack.
What could be improved: Very small unavoidable thing but just for information - the rooms are located directly adjacent to the breakfast room so if you want to sleep in you probably will be woken up by cappuccinos being made!
What could be improved: We had a huge terrace but no access to cutlery or plates to have antipasti etc. out there. This can be avoided by bringing your own plastic ones.
