Hotel Roma
Florence, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Hotel Roma? The location is absolutely killer – and I mean that in the best way possible. It’s right there on Piazza Santa Maria Novella, which honestly feels like cheating because you’re basically across from one of Florence’s most gorgeous churches, but somehow you’re not drowning in the chaos that usually comes with prime real estate like this. The piazza itself has this perfect morning rhythm where locals grab coffee at the bars before the day-trippers show up, and from your hotel window, you get to watch it all unfold.
The hotel itself has that solid four-star vibe without trying too hard – you know, the kind of place that’s comfortable enough that you actually want to hang out in your room for a bit, but not so fancy that you feel guilty about tossing your backpack on the bed. The staff actually knows the neighborhood, which sounds basic but trust me, it’s not always a given. They’ll point you toward Via della Scala for that little alimentari that stays open late, or mention that the best gelato (not the touristy stuff) is tucked away on Via dei Fossi, just a two-minute walk away. The rooms are well-appointed – I mean, the beds are properly comfortable and the bathrooms work the way they should, plus there’s decent air conditioning, which in Florence summers is basically non-negotiable.
What really sells me on this place is how it sits in the city. You’re a genuine five-minute walk from the Duomo, but you’re also right by the train station, which sounds terrible but actually isn’t because Santa Maria Novella is one of those beautiful old European stations that doesn’t feel like a transit hub. More importantly, you’re positioned perfectly for real Florence life – Via dei Banchi for vintage shopping, the Sant’Ambrogio market for actual groceries, and you can walk to Oltrarno for dinner without it being a whole expedition. The neighborhood has this lived-in quality where you’ll see the same faces at the corner café, but it’s not sleepy – there’s energy here, especially in the evenings when locals start their passeggiata. Honestly, with an 8.6 rating, you’re getting a place that delivers on the fundamentals while dropping you into the actual rhythm of the city, not some sanitized tourist version of it.

Guest Reviews
We stayed in their apartment that was actually in the building two buildings away from the main hotel.
The apartment was really nice, safe, good airconditioning. good beds, Nice view of the square from the balcony.
All of the front desk staff from various ethnicities were truly helpful and forthcoming to help the guests in all possible ways.
I give 10/10 points for the staff at the front desk.
I wanted to extend my stay but the hotel was fully booked.
What could be improved: There's nothing much.

What could be improved: Would be great to have a restaurant on location. That said, great drinks and snacks when watching the evening crowds.
