Graziella Patio Hotel
Arezzo, ItalyLook, I’ve stayed at my fair share of hotels in Tuscany, and honestly? The Graziella Patio Hotel surprised me in the best way possible. When you first walk up to Via Cavour 23, you might think you’re just hitting another decent four-star place – but there’s something different about this one. The entrance has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream “tourist trap,” which I appreciated right away. And you know what really struck me? The staff actually seemed to remember my name after the first day, which is… well, it’s rarer than it should be these days.
The location is what really makes this place shine though. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Arezzo’s centro storico, and I’m talking about a five-minute walk to the Piazza Grande where they film all those period movies. But here’s the thing most people don’t realize – Via Cavour is just off the main drag, so you get all the medieval charm without the constant buzz of scooters and tour groups right outside your window. I slept surprisingly well, actually. The patio area (hence the name, obviously) becomes this lovely little oasis in the evenings where you can have a drink and watch the locals heading home from work. There’s something really authentic about that ritual – you’re not just observing Italian life, you’re sort of participating in it.
What impressed me most was how they’ve managed to modernize without losing character. The rooms have all the stuff you actually need – good Wi-Fi, decent air conditioning, bathrooms that make sense – but they’ve kept these beautiful old details like the original tile work and those shutters that actually block out light. The breakfast setup is solid too, not fancy but they do this thing with local pastries that beats the hell out of those generic hotel croissants you get everywhere else. And parking – okay, this matters if you’re driving – there’s a garage situation that’s way less stressful than trying to navigate those impossibly narrow streets looking for a spot. The front desk sorted it out without any drama, which saved me about an hour of frustration.
Honestly, if you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re staying somewhere that locals might actually recommend to their visiting relatives, this is your spot. It’s got that sweet spot pricing where you’re not breaking the bank but you’re also not wondering if the towels are clean. The 8.5 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it absolutely nails what it’s going for. Plus, and this is just a nice bonus, you can walk to that amazing antique market on the first Sunday of every month without dealing with buses or taxis. I ended up extending my stay by two nights just because I didn’t want to leave, which… well, that doesn’t happen often.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: The room was in the basement so apart from a back entrance there was no access to daylight. Breakfast was served in another windowless room in the basement and was fairly limited.
What could be improved: Compact room, with no comfortable seating in the room or elsewhere in the hotel, nowhere to relax apart from lying on the bed. No bar and we chose to get breakfast elsewhere.
What could be improved: Nothing at all.
What could be improved: The breakfast was I think more for European type travelers than American.....we just found it easier to get coffee and pastry on the go at one of the many locations around the hotel.
Staff very helpful.
What could be improved: Could hear guests in the next room but they were very loud.
What could be improved: The breakfast was very poor for the money.
