First Impressions

Walking into Grand Hotel Terme & SPA feels like stepping into one of those classic Italian hotels that actually lives up to its grand name. The lobby has this old-world elegance thing going on — marble floors, crystal chandeliers, the works — but it doesn’t feel stuffy or overdone. You know what I mean? It’s the kind of place where you immediately feel like you’re somewhere special, but you can still relax in your travel clothes without feeling out of place.

Location & The Thermal Town Experience

This four-star hotel sits right on Piazza Italia, which honestly couldn’t be more central if they tried. Chianciano Terme is one of those Tuscan spa towns that locals have been coming to for generations — not just tourists, but actual Italians who know their thermal waters. The town has this authentic, lived-in feel that’s getting harder to find these days. You can walk to the main thermal parks in about five minutes, and there’s something really nice about being able to stroll back to your hotel after an evening soak without dealing with taxis or long walks.

The Room & Comfort Factor

My room was larger than I expected — these older Italian hotels sometimes surprise you that way. The decor strikes a good balance between traditional and updated; think classic furniture but with modern bathrooms and reliable air conditioning (which, trust me, matters in summer). The beds are actually comfortable, not just pretty to look at, and the windows open wide if you prefer fresh air over AC. I mean, the views aren’t spectacular or anything, but you get nice glimpses of the town and surrounding hills.

Dining & Daily Rhythms

The breakfast situation here is honestly better than it needs to be. They do both continental and buffet style, so you can grab a quick espresso and cornetto or sit down for a proper spread with local cheeses, fresh fruit, and decent pastries. The hotel restaurant serves solid Tuscan fare — nothing revolutionary, but the kind of reliable, well-prepared food that hits the spot after a day of exploring. What I really appreciated was how they seem to understand the rhythm of spa town life; everything runs a bit slower and more relaxed than your typical business hotel.

Why Guests Love It

There’s free parking right at the hotel, which is actually a big deal in these historic Italian towns where finding a spot can be a nightmare. The spa facilities are well-maintained without being overly fancy, and the staff genuinely seems to know the area — they’ll point you toward the better thermal pools or suggest restaurants that aren’t just tourist traps. Couples particularly seem to enjoy this place, and I can see why; it has that romantic, old-Italy atmosphere without being too precious about it. It’s the kind of hotel where you can actually unwind and feel like you’re experiencing authentic Italian spa culture, not just checking it off a list.

Tuscany’s apartments welcome families with poolside pergolas, cooking classes, and day trips to Pisa’s leaning icon.

Friendly staff, food was good, the bedroom was very spaceful, and the spa was great; 3 saunas and 2 pools. The massage was awesome. Great value for the price. Plus Tuscany is a piece of heaven.

Chianciano, as a city, looked pretty deserted, like a tornado went through. Covid probably affected the tourism in the area. Nobody is investing in jotels too much. However, for Terme, I like that it was clean, the made cleaned up every day, and the breakfast was decent (compared to Alexander Palme which is awful). Parking is available around the hotel and the staff in general was friendly. I did not use the spa, but I heard people having fun in the evening. It has a restaurant, which is convenient since most things are closed in Chianciano.

Our room was clean and tastefully decorated - it seems to have been modernised recently. The Spa was the main reason we went and it didn't disappoint - we really enjoyed it. There are about 3 different saunas of varying temperatures, an ice cold shower and mist, ice, 2 large hot jaccuzi pools with water massage features and 2 relaxing rooms. We used it twice, once when we got there and once in the morning which was included in our room package. Breakfast was amazing - lots of delicious, fresh pastries and cakes and a selection of savoury foods too. Coffee made to order - perfect!

This is a grand if slightly faded hotel we really enjoyed inspite of dated decor. Friendly and helpful staff and great thermal pool. Enjoyable
