Villa Il Fedino
You know those places that make you immediately think “I could live here”? Villa Il Fedino is exactly that kind of spot. Tucked away on Via Borromeo in San Casciano – honestly, one of those addresses that sounds way fancier than it feels when you’re actually there – this villa has that perfect balance of being sophisticated without making you feel like you need to whisper in the hallways.
The thing about San Casciano is that it’s proper Chianti country, but not the touristy kind where you’re dodging bus groups all day. I mean, you’re still only about twenty minutes from Florence when you need that city fix, but here you’ve got actual Tuscan life happening around you. The villa itself sits in this gorgeous spot where you can hear the church bells from the center of town (they’re not obnoxious, just… present, you know?), and there’s this incredible view that changes throughout the day – morning mist rolling through the vineyards, then that golden afternoon light that makes everything look like a Renaissance painting.
What really got me was how the staff actually knows the area. Not just the usual “oh yes, very nice restaurant” responses, but genuine recommendations like which enoteca has the best local Chianti Classico tastings (there’s this tiny place on Via Machiavelli that’s incredible) or when the Saturday market is worth hitting up. The rooms have that lived-in elegance – think antique furniture that’s actually comfortable, not just for show, and windows that open wide enough to let in those amazing morning smells of espresso and fresh bread from the bakery down the hill. The beds are seriously good too, which matters more than people admit when they’re talking about Italian hotels.
Parking was surprisingly easy, which – trust me – is not something you take for granted in this part of Tuscany. They’ve got their own little area, so you’re not doing that thing where you’re circling narrow medieval streets at 9 PM with your luggage in the back, slowly losing your mind. The breakfast situation is solid without being overwhelming, and they actually source a lot of it locally, which you can taste. There’s this honey that I’m pretty sure comes from somewhere within walking distance, and the prosciutto is definitely not the generic hotel stuff.
The pool area is where you’ll probably end up spending more time than you planned – it’s got that perfect afternoon sun exposure, and the sound of the fountain sort of drowns out any road noise (though honestly, there isn’t much). September through early October is probably the sweet spot if you can swing it – warm enough for the pool, but you’ve got that autumn light that makes the whole Val di Pesa look absolutely magical.
Look, it’s not cheap, but for what you’re getting – and I mean the whole experience of staying somewhere that feels authentically Tuscan without being a tourist trap – it’s worth it. Plus, with a 9.5 rating, I’m clearly not the only one who thinks they’ve got something special going on here.

the villa is exceptional beuty
the breakfast is exeptional good.
A property that is as good as it gets in Tuscany !, breakfast was plentiful & beautiful(pastries , cereals, meats & cheeses, eggs ,coffee & juice)A newly installed in ground pool was just the treat on hot days with plenty of lounge chairs surrounding it. Come the afternoon enjoy the views whilst enjoying in house selection of wines & beer etc on the outer terrace .
I didn’t miss out on the cooking class, well worth it. Tasted local produce of cheeses, olive oil etc. great recipes too.
