Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places in Florence, but Forte16 View & SPA actually surprised me – and honestly, that doesn’t happen often anymore. You know that slightly chaotic area around Piazza Beccaria where the tourists thin out and you start seeing actual Florentines going about their day? That’s where you’ll find this place, tucked right on Viale Gramsci. The building itself has this understated elegance thing going on – not trying too hard to scream “luxury hotel” like some of the spots closer to the Duomo.

What really got me was the spa situation. I mean, after walking around Florence all day (and let’s be real, those cobblestones are murder on your feet), having a proper spa wasn’t just nice – it was necessary. The whole wellness setup feels genuinely Italian, not like some generic hotel spa dropped into the building as an afterthought. The staff actually knows what they’re doing, and there’s this relaxed vibe that makes you want to linger. The rooms are solid too – nothing groundbreaking, but they’re thoughtfully designed with enough space to actually unpack without living out of your suitcase. I particularly liked that they didn’t go overboard with the Tuscan countryside theme that every other hotel in the city seems obsessed with.

Here’s the thing about the location that most people miss – you’re close enough to walk to the center (maybe 15 minutes to Santa Croce), but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the cruise ship crowds outside your window at 7 AM. The Lungarno del Tempio side gives you these nice river views, and honestly, there’s something pretty magical about watching the Arno in the early morning with your coffee. Plus, you’re right near some genuinely good neighborhood restaurants – the kind where you might be the only non-Italian at dinner. Parking was surprisingly manageable too, which anyone who’s driven in Florence will tell you is basically a miracle. The whole experience just felt… well, authentic isn’t the right word because that’s become such hotel marketing speak, but it felt real. Like staying at a place that happens to be really good at hospitality rather than a hospitality machine trying to manufacture an experience.
