Flom Boutique Hotel
Florence, ItalyYou know what really caught me off guard about Flom Boutique Hotel? Walking up to Via Guelfa 41, I was expecting another generic Florence hotel – but this place actually has character. The San Lorenzo neighborhood isn’t the touristy heart of Florence (thank God), so you’re getting a real slice of how locals live while still being close enough to hit the Duomo without breaking a sweat.
The building itself has this understated elegance that I honestly prefer to the over-the-top palazzo conversions you see everywhere else. Inside, they’ve nailed that tricky balance between boutique charm and actual comfort – the rooms aren’t huge, but they’re thoughtfully designed with details that matter. Good lighting for reading, proper outlets where you need them, and – this might sound small but it’s not – decent water pressure in the shower. The staff genuinely seems to care about what they’re doing, which you can tell within five minutes of checking in.
What I love most is the location, though. Via Guelfa puts you right in the middle of real Florence life – there’s this incredible neighborhood energy with locals grabbing coffee at the corner bar, the San Lorenzo market just around the corner (get there early, seriously), and you’re a genuine 10-minute walk to the station if you’re doing day trips. The street can get a bit lively in the evenings, but it’s the good kind of lively, not obnoxious tourist noise. Plus, you’re close enough to duck into places like Trattoria Mario for lunch – that tiny spot where locals actually eat, not just tourists following guidebooks. I mean, having a 4-star place with a 9 rating in this part of town? That’s not accidental. They’re doing something right, from the way they’ve designed the common areas to how they handle the little things that make or break a stay. If you want to feel like you’re staying in Florence rather than just visiting it, this is your spot.

What could be improved: nothing to complain about
What could be improved: Nothing to dislike
What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: Having my loose change taken from my room
One small idea for improvement: it would be great if the staff could wear name tags. It makes it easier to communicate and, even better, to mention them by name in a review. There were so many people I would have liked to thank personally but I just can’t remember all their names.
Also, it would be nice if the breakfast buffet had a small cold counter to keep the cold cuts fresher for longer.
Overall, definitely 5 out of 5. We would happily stay here again.
And before I forget, I have to mention Edward from Firenze, who put all his skills to work and made me the best Aperol I’ve had so far on this trip. Cheers to him for that extra holiday feeling!

What could be improved: A 4 star hotel should replenish water daily. I also think could have more plug points. The road slightly ahead was dug up and made walking a little inconvenient.
The staff is exceptionally courteous. Leonardo, the receptionist, is a wonderful, kind, and welcoming young man – I’ve never encountered service like this anywhere else. He answers questions and gives recommendations with a smile.
If I return to Florence, I’ll definitely come back and will be happy to see him again.
Thanks, shahar
