DoubleTree by Hilton Florence Metropole
Florence, ItalyFirst Impressions
Walking into DoubleTree by Hilton Florence Metropole, you’re immediately struck by how refreshingly modern everything feels — which honestly surprised me given Florence’s reputation for historic properties. The lobby has this clean, contemporary design that feels more international business hotel than traditional Italian charm, but you know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you want after a long day of navigating cobblestone streets. The staff handed me that signature warm chocolate chip cookie at check-in, and I’ll admit it — that little touch never gets old, even when you’ve stayed at DoubleTree properties before.
Location and Getting Around
Here’s the thing about the location — you’re not in the historic center, but that’s actually not a bad thing. The hotel sits in a quieter residential area about 15 minutes by car from the Duomo, which means you get to see how real Florentines live while still having easy access to all the tourist spots. What really sold me on this place was the private parking situation. I mean, anyone who’s tried to drive in Florence knows what a nightmare parking can be, so having a guaranteed spot at the hotel is honestly worth its weight in gold. There’s also decent public transport connections if you prefer not to deal with driving in the city center.
The Rooms
My room was spacious by European standards — definitely bigger than what you’d typically find in Florence’s historic center. The decor follows that same modern aesthetic from the lobby, with neutral tones and clean lines that feel calming after spending hours surrounded by Renaissance art and architecture. The bed was genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathroom had a proper shower with good water pressure. Nothing groundbreaking, but everything worked exactly as it should, which is more than I can say for some of the boutique places I’ve stayed at in Italy.
Dining and Amenities
The breakfast spread was solid — not spectacular, but it covered all the bases with both Italian and international options. I particularly appreciated having proper coffee (this is Italy, after all) and fresh pastries alongside the usual hotel breakfast fare. The hotel restaurant serves dinner too, though honestly, you’re in Florence — you’ll probably want to venture out for meals. There’s a fitness center that’s small but well-equipped, and the business facilities are actually quite good if you’re mixing work with pleasure.
Why Guests Love It
What really makes DoubleTree by Hilton Florence Metropole work is how it solves the practical problems of visiting Florence without sacrificing comfort. Couples seem to particularly appreciate the combination of a peaceful location and easy city access — you can have romantic dinners in the centro storico and then retreat to a quiet, comfortable base. The reliable Hilton standards mean you know exactly what you’re getting, which can be reassuring when you’re planning a special trip. It’s not the most characteristically Florentine hotel you’ll find, but sometimes dependable comfort trumps local charm, especially when that charm often comes with tiny rooms and questionable plumbing.

What could be improved: No comment.
What could be improved: Everything good
The shuttle bus to the tram stop was good.
What could be improved: It was further from the city centre than we’d thought when we booked.
A guest-paying shuttle bus to the central train station and airport would have been appreciated.
There were only two close by restaurants worth going to.
Only Sam, one of the shuttle bus drivers, had excellent English and was very helpful with directions and suggestions.
What could be improved: Limited choice on the evening restaurant menu.
What could be improved: No room key was available
