DoubleTree by Hilton Florence Metropole
Florence, ItalyI’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the DoubleTree by Hilton Florence Metropole on Via Del Cavallaccio, I wasn’t expecting much. The area feels a bit removed from the tourist chaos, which actually turned out to be perfect. You’re about a 15-minute tram ride from the Duomo, but here’s the thing most people don’t realize: being slightly outside the centro storico means you can actually breathe and the prices around here don’t make your wallet cry.
The hotel itself has that reliable DoubleTree vibe – you know what you’re getting, but this one surprised me with some thoughtful touches. The lobby’s got this warm, contemporary feel without trying too hard to be trendy, and honestly, after walking Florence’s cobblestones all day, those plush seating areas were exactly what I needed. The staff genuinely seemed to know the city well (not just the obvious tourist spots), which made a difference when I was looking for that perfect neighborhood trattoria. Speaking of neighborhoods, you’re positioned really well here – there’s a decent supermarket just down the street, and I discovered this little bar around the corner where locals actually hang out. The rooms are solid four-star quality, nothing revolutionary but comfortable beds and good water pressure, which let’s face it, matters more than fancy amenities when you’re doing serious sightseeing.
What I really appreciated was how the hotel handles the practical stuff that can make or break a trip. Parking is available (crucial if you’re doing a Tuscany road trip), and the breakfast setup actually flows well – no standing around with your plate wondering where to go. The pool area becomes a genuine refuge during Florence’s sweltering summer afternoons, and I mean that literally saved my trip in July. You’re close enough to catch the T1 tram line without hiking forever, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with the crowds and noise that plague hotels near Santa Maria Novella. The rating of 8 feels right – this isn’t going to be your most memorable hotel experience, but it’s going to be a really solid base for exploring Florence without the premium you’d pay closer to the center. Plus, and this might sound silly, but those signature DoubleTree cookies at check-in hit different after a long travel day.

What could be improved: Location.
It was a bit far from the centre . Almost paid 30’euros per trip . It’s far from railway station and also airport.

What could be improved: No comment.
What could be improved: Everything good
The shuttle bus to the tram stop was good.
What could be improved: It was further from the city centre than we’d thought when we booked.
A guest-paying shuttle bus to the central train station and airport would have been appreciated.
There were only two close by restaurants worth going to.
Only Sam, one of the shuttle bus drivers, had excellent English and was very helpful with directions and suggestions.
What could be improved: Limited choice on the evening restaurant menu.
What could be improved: No room key was available
