Dimora Palanca Boutique & SPA
So I stumbled upon Dimora Palanca Boutique & SPA last spring, and honestly? It’s one of those places that makes you feel like you discovered some well-kept secret – even though it’s sitting right there on Via della Scala. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from Santa Maria Novella station, which is incredibly handy when you’re dragging luggage through cobblestone streets, but somehow this little gem feels completely removed from all that tourist chaos.
The building itself is this gorgeous converted palazzo that – and here’s what I love – they actually preserved the original frescoed ceilings and marble details instead of gutting everything for that generic boutique hotel look. When you walk in, there’s this immediate sense of stepping back in time, but not in that stuffy museum way. The staff genuinely knows their stuff too; the concierge pointed me toward this tiny enoteca on Via del Sole that I never would’ve found otherwise, and it ended up being one of my favorite evenings in Florence. The spa is honestly the star though – I’m usually skeptical about hotel spas, but this one uses local Tuscan ingredients and the massage therapist (Anna, I think?) actually worked out knots I didn’t even know I had. You know what’s funny? The treatment rooms are built into what used to be wine cellars, so there’s this really cool ancient stone vibe that somehow makes the whole experience feel more authentic.
What really sets this place apart – and why I keep recommending it to friends – is how it manages to be genuinely luxurious without feeling pretentious. The rooms are spacious by European standards (you can actually open your suitcase without climbing over the bed), and the bathrooms have these amazing rainfall showers with water pressure that actually works. The breakfast spread is solid too, though I’ll be honest, after a couple days I started sneaking out to that little café on the corner for proper Italian coffee – the hotel stuff is fine, but you’re in Florence, you know? The location is actually perfect for exploring on foot; you’re close enough to the Duomo and Uffizi that you can easily walk there, but far enough from the absolute madness around those areas that you can come back and actually relax. Plus, being near Santa Maria Novella means you’ve got easy train access for day trips to Siena or San Gimignano. The only minor thing I’d mention is that rooms facing the street can get a bit noisy in the early morning – Italian delivery trucks don’t mess around – but honestly, that’s just city life, and the double-glazed windows do help.

Guest Reviews
Elegance and tranquillity of the Dimora was paramount; like a country house but set in the middle of a busy city. Only a 20 -25 minute scenic walk into the tourist centre plus a reliable bus service for the less energetic.
Staff very polite and helpful, especially Jac who has great recommendations for restaurants and made bookings on our behalf.
The breakfast was of a consistently high standard for quality and quantity. Vimal, the dining room manager was friendly and helpful.
The hotel may be slightly further away from the tourist centre but that's more than compensated for by the enhanced serenity and relaxing ambience.
Will stay here next time.
The breakfast was wonderful with a wide range of local delicious morsels and of course perfect coffee.
I hope I will also stay here when visiting Florence.
