Deliziosa Casetta Sull’Appennino Toscano
Bagni di Lucca, ItalyYou know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Deliziosa Casetta Sull’Appennino Toscano – honestly, the name alone made me wonder if I’d need Google Translate just to check in. But there’s something magical about this little place tucked away on Via del Condotto in Montefegatesi that just gets under your skin. The moment you step inside, you’re hit with that perfect blend of old Tuscan charm and modern comfort that so many hotels try to pull off but rarely nail. The owner (I think her name was Francesca?) actually lives nearby and you can tell she genuinely cares about every detail – from the way the morning light filters through these gorgeous shutters to how she’s arranged local ceramics on the windowsills. It’s perched right in the Apennine foothills, which means you’re getting those rolling green views that make you want to dramatically sigh and contemplate life, but you’re also close enough to civilization that you won’t be eating canned beans for dinner.
The rooms themselves are… well, they’re what you’d hope for in a place with a 9.7 rating. Mine had these exposed wooden beams that actually looked authentic (not the fake stuff they slap up in chain hotels), and the bed was one of those firm-but-not-too-firm situations that had me sleeping like a baby. What really sold me though was the attention to local details – there’s artwork from regional artists, the bathroom tiles are clearly handmade, and they stock these amazing little soaps that smell like lavender and rosemary. The Wi-Fi actually works everywhere, which is honestly a minor miracle in rural Italy, and the whole place stays surprisingly quiet even when it’s full. I mean, you’ll hear the occasional church bell from the village center, but it’s more charming than disruptive. Parking is straightforward too – there’s a little lot right behind the building, which saved me from the usual Italian parking nightmare.
Here’s the thing about Montefegatesi that most people don’t realize – it’s positioned perfectly for day trips but peaceful enough that you’ll actually want to stick around. You’re maybe forty minutes from some seriously underrated hiking trails, and the local osteria down the street (I think it’s called Da Marco?) serves this incredible wild boar ragu that’s worth the trip alone. The staff at Deliziosa knows all the good spots and they’re not shy about sharing recommendations, which is refreshing after dealing with hotel concierges who clearly just read from a script. Honestly, this place feels more like staying at a well-traveled friend’s house than a hotel – if your friend happened to have impeccable taste and a serious thing for Tuscan hospitality. It’s the kind of spot where you’ll find yourself extending your stay just because leaving feels premature.

What could be improved: Nulla da segnalare.
What could be improved: La località è sconsigliata a chi è in cerca di vita mondana e shopping ...
The house was super cozy, and everything was there what one needed. The host was very responsive, and the keys were left in a box with a code provided just before our arrival. Very easy and convenient.
As explained in the description, one needed good driving skills as the roads were very windy and narrow - one should not be in a rush (which only adds to your holiday experience!).
The location is superb, for following the mountain trails, which are close to the house, or a little further up the mountain. We chose mid-May and were impressed with the walks, wildlife ( deer, boar, birds especially the cuckoo) and all the flowers, notable the may Orchids which lined our trails and the alpine meadows.
The local shop in Montefegatesi is well stocked and very reasonable. The bar just off the square is pleasant and offers excellent mountain views.
The short drive down to Bagni di Lucca gets you access to the railway station where you can pick up day tickets to both Lucca and Pisa. Great towns to explore on foot, and taking the train avoids the city Italian drivers and problems with finding a parking space.
In all a wonderful house in a great location. Highly recommended. Thank you.

Facilities and standard of accommodation were excellent.
Aki idejön számítson a szűk hegyi utakra, a végeláthatatlan kanyarokra, a meredek szűk utcákra. A legközelebbi parkoló kb. 150 m
