Casa Vacanze Le Fornaci
Laterina, ItalyYou know what struck me first about Casa Vacanze Le Fornaci? The name itself – “Le Fornaci” means “the furnaces” in Italian, and honestly, that little detail tells you everything about this place’s character. It’s tucked away on Via Valdascione in Laterina, which is one of those Tuscan villages that feels like it exists in its own time bubble. I mean, you’re still close enough to the action (Arezzo’s maybe twenty minutes if you’re not stuck behind a tractor), but far enough out that you actually hear church bells instead of car horns. The building itself has this beautiful stone facade that catches the morning light just right – I’m pretty sure it used to be connected to some old industrial site, hence the furnace reference, but now it’s been transformed into something really special.
The rooms are what you’d hope for in a 4-star place, but without feeling stuffy or overdone. Actually, the best part is how they’ve managed to keep the original character while adding modern touches that actually work. The bathrooms are properly updated (thank god), and the beds are comfortable enough that you won’t spend your vacation complaining about your back. What really gets me is the attention to small details – like, they’ve got proper blackout curtains, which sounds minor until you’re trying to sleep past sunrise on a summer morning. The Wi-Fi actually works throughout the property, which isn’t always a given in these old stone buildings. Parking is included, which saves you the headache of navigating Laterina’s narrow streets looking for a spot. The breakfast spread is solid – local pastries, decent coffee, and they usually have some regional specialties that change with the seasons.
Here’s the thing about staying in Laterina – it’s perfectly positioned if you want to explore the Casentino valley without dealing with tourist crowds. You can walk to the old town center in about ten minutes, and there’s this little osteria called Da Beppino that locals actually eat at (not just tourists). The train station is walkable too, which is clutch if you want to day-trip to Florence or Rome without renting a car. Casa Vacanze Le Fornaci sits in a quieter residential area, so you won’t have groups of people wandering past your window at midnight, but you’re not isolated either. The staff genuinely seems to care about making sure you have what you need – they’ll point you toward the good hiking trails or tell you which markets are worth visiting on which days. With a 9.3 rating, it’s clearly hitting the mark for most people, and I get why. It’s one of those places that feels like you’re staying somewhere with real character, not just another generic hotel room.

One of the best surprises was the on-site restaurant it was absolutely fantastic. The food was authentic, fresh, and full of flavor, and it was such a treat to enjoy delicious Tuscan meals just steps from our apartment.
The hosts were kind and welcoming, and made sure we were comfortable throughout our stay. It truly felt like a home away from home. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy a quiet and authentic Tuscan experience!

We’re a young family from Austria and had a lovely week at Casa Vacanze Le Fornaci. The house is simple but very charming, with a lot of history that gives it a special feel.
It’s a great spot to explore nearby towns, and we enjoyed coming back each evening to the quiet and peaceful atmosphere.
The owners are super friendly and helpful — we felt very welcome from the first moment.
There’s also a nice restaurant on the property with really tasty food and fair prices, which made dinner easy and enjoyable.
We had a great time and would happily come back!
We would definitely recommend anyone to book 😍

What could be improved: Nothing to complain.
Enrico and the whole family are some of the nicest people we’ve ever met. They helped us get around very easily and were always available to explain attractions, routes and things to do in the area.
What could be improved: Nothing. We liked everything because it was exceptional.
