First Impressions

Walking up Via dei Serragli to find Buonarroti big apartment with terrace in Oltrarno, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from the name alone. But once you step inside this four-star property, it becomes clear why couples rate it so highly — there’s something genuinely special about having your own spacious apartment in one of Florence‘s most authentic neighborhoods. The terrace mentioned in the name? It’s not just a marketing gimmick, it’s actually a proper outdoor space where you can sit with morning coffee and feel like a temporary local.

The Oltrarno Experience

You know what I love about staying in San Frediano? It’s still real Florence, not the tourist bubble you get closer to the Duomo. The artisan workshops are actually functioning businesses, not museum pieces, and you’ll hear Italian conversations in the morning markets rather than just camera clicks. From Buonarroti, you can walk to Palazzo Pitti in about ten minutes, but more importantly, you’re surrounded by genuine neighborhood life. The Santo Spirito area is right there with its evening aperitivo scene, and honestly, some of the best meals I’ve had in Florence came from tiny places within a few blocks of this street.

The Space Itself

This isn’t your typical hotel room situation — you’re getting a proper apartment with enough space to actually unpack and settle in. The kitchen means you can grab fresh ingredients from the local markets (there’s a great one near Santo Spirito) and prepare simple meals, which feels pretty wonderful after days of restaurant dining. I mean, sometimes you just want to make coffee exactly how you like it, you know? The terrace becomes your private retreat in the evenings, and there’s something magical about watching the light change over the Oltrarno rooftops while planning the next day’s adventures.

Getting Around

Via dei Serragli is one of those streets that connects you to everything without feeling chaotic. You can walk across Ponte alla Carraia to reach the city center in about fifteen minutes, or head the other direction toward the more residential areas where locals actually live. The location works especially well if you’re planning day trips — getting to Santa Maria Novella station is straightforward, and you’re not fighting through the crowds that cluster around the main tourist zones. Plus, parking in this area is actually manageable if you’re driving, which isn’t something you can say about most of central Florence.

Why Guests Love It

That 9.5 rating makes perfect sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s the combination of having real space to breathe, being in an authentic neighborhood, and still being close enough to everything that matters. Couples particularly appreciate the privacy and the chance to experience Florence more like residents than tourists. The terrace alone sets this apart from typical hotel stays — there’s something about having your own outdoor space in a dense historic city that feels like a small miracle. You’re not just visiting Florence, you’re actually living in it for a few days.

Tuscany’s apartments welcome families with poolside pergolas, cooking classes, and day trips to Pisa’s leaning icon.

The location was good, about 15 mins walk to the centre, train station and tram stop to airport.
Also quiet location.
The size of the apartment was great for our family of 5, with 3 bedrooms and bathrooms and decent sized living space.
It was great to have a lift at the property being on the third floor.
Our hosts were great, friendly, accommodating and keeping us updated regularly. They notified us of unplanned roof works before we arrived to give us the option of cancelling, provided a video of the apartment and the works so that we could make an informed decision and provided a discount for any inconvenience. And there were very little works while we were there.
I highly recommend.

The location was great. The apartment was tastefully done up with a nice terrace. Lovely cafes right in the neighbourhood. It was close to the river and most important sites. The ladies who ran the place were easily accessible and helpful.

The apartment is beautiful! The bedrooms are situated to not hear outside noise, and the beds/pillows are extremely comfortable. We were there with our family of 6 and ate some meals in, the kitchen was fully stocked and large enough for several of us to be cooking at once! Very rare in Florence! Will definitely stay there again!!
