B&B My Way
Florence, ItalyYou know what really got me about B&B My Way? It’s tucked away on the third floor of this classic Florentine building on Via Nazionale, and honestly, I almost walked past it twice before spotting the small sign. But that’s sort of the charm – it feels like you’re staying in someone’s actual home rather than some sterile hotel lobby situation. The owners clearly put thought into every corner, and you can tell they actually care about the space. I mean, it’s got that 4-star rating for a reason, but it doesn’t feel stuffy or overly formal like some places in Florence can get.
The location is actually brilliant once you figure out the neighborhood. Via Nazionale puts you right in the thick of things without the tourist circus that surrounds the Duomo – you’re maybe a 10-minute walk from all the major sites, but you can still grab morning coffee at the little bar downstairs with actual locals heading to work. I loved that about it. The street itself gets a bit busy during the day (it’s a main thoroughfare), but by evening it quiets down, and the third-floor positioning means you’re not really bothered by any noise anyway. Plus, there’s this great little trattoria just around the corner on Via Faenza that the host recommended – definitely not a tourist trap, just solid Tuscan food that won’t break the bank.
What really sets this place apart is the attention to detail and that genuine B&B feel. The rooms have this comfortable, lived-in quality with nice linens and thoughtful touches like good lighting for reading (something so many places get wrong). The breakfast spread is actually impressive – fresh pastries, local cheeses, proper coffee, not just the sad continental buffet you get at chain hotels. The hosts know their stuff too; they gave me insider tips about which museums to hit early, where to find the best gelato (not the touristy spots), and even helped me figure out the bus system to get to some of the hillside towns. Check-in was smooth, though fair warning – it’s an older building, so no elevator, but honestly the climb to the third floor isn’t bad unless you’re hauling massive suitcases. With an 8.7 rating from actual guests, it’s clearly doing something right, and I can see why people keep coming back to this little gem.
