Sette Angeli Rooms
So I stumbled across Sette Angeli Rooms completely by accident – well, actually my original booking fell through last minute and I was scrambling for something decent near the centro storico. Best travel disaster ever, honestly. This place sits right on Via Nazionale, which I know sounds like it might be crazy busy, but it’s actually that sweet spot where you’re close enough to walk everywhere without being in the thick of tourist chaos.
The name means “Seven Angels” and you know what? They’ve really leaned into that whole ethereal vibe without going overboard. Walking in, there’s this lovely old Florentine building feel – high ceilings, original details – but they’ve done the rooms up in this clean, modern style that actually works. I mean, you’re not getting massive spaces (this is Florence, after all), but everything’s thoughtfully laid out. The beds are properly comfortable, which honestly surprised me since I’ve stayed at some 4-star places in Italy where the mattresses felt like cardboard. The bathrooms are compact but well-designed, with decent water pressure – something you can’t take for granted in these old buildings.
What I really loved was how the staff seemed to genuinely know their stuff about the city. Not just the obvious tourist spots, but when I mentioned wanting good aperitivo that wasn’t crawling with study abroad students, they pointed me toward this little enoteca about five minutes away that became my nightly ritual. The whole area around Via Nazionale is brilliant for that, actually – you’re walking distance from Santa Maria Novella (the train station and the gorgeous church), but you can also wander down toward the Duomo or cut over to the Oltrarno without breaking a sweat. I found myself using the room as a proper home base, ducking back in the afternoon to recharge before evening explorations.
The 8.6 rating makes total sense to me. It’s not trying to be some luxury palazzo – there’s no fancy spa or elaborate breakfast spread – but it nails the fundamentals while adding those little touches that show someone’s actually thinking about the guest experience. The rooms stay surprisingly quiet considering the location, though if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe mention it when booking since the street does get some morning delivery traffic. Check-in was smooth, WiFi worked properly (crucial for sorting out restaurant reservations), and the whole place just felt… well, comfortable. Not sterile-hotel comfortable, but like staying in a friend’s nicely renovated apartment comfortable.
Look, Florence has about a million accommodation options, and plenty of them are either overpriced tourist traps or budget places that leave you feeling grimy. Sette Angeli Rooms threads that needle really well – you’re paying for location and quality without the inflated prices that come with marble lobbies and concierge services you’ll never use. If you want somewhere that feels authentically Florentine but won’t have you roughing it, this is your spot.

The first room was a bit small and on the busy road, so Marie found a larger room for us. We were very comfortable.
