Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about B&B La Residenza Dell’Orafo? The name – it means “goldsmith’s residence,” and honestly, that tells you everything about this place. Tucked away on Largo Fratelli Alinari, it’s got this intimate, craftsman-like attention to detail that you just don’t find in the bigger hotels around Santa Maria Novella. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from the train station, but somehow it feels worlds away from all that tourist chaos.

The building itself has this understated elegance – none of that over-the-top Renaissance wannabe stuff you see everywhere in Florence. Walking in, there’s this immediate sense of calm, like you’ve stumbled into someone’s well-appointed home rather than a commercial space. The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully curated – not huge by any means, but every single thing has been chosen with purpose. The beds are actually comfortable (and I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms have that perfect Italian marble thing going on without feeling cold or sterile. What really got me was the breakfast setup – they do this spread that changes based on what’s good at the local markets, and you can tell they’re not just opening packages from some food service company.

Here’s the thing about the location that most people don’t realize – yes, you’re close to everything, but you’re on one of those quieter side streets where actual Florentines live and work. There’s this little café around the corner that serves the best cornetti I had in the entire city, and it’s completely off the tourist radar. You can walk to the Duomo in about eight minutes, but you can also just wander the neighborhood and feel like you’re seeing the real Florence. The staff – and I hate when people say this, but it’s true here – actually seem to enjoy helping you figure out the city. They’ll tell you when the Uffizi is least crowded, or which osteria has the best ribollita, or how to avoid the crowds at sunset on the Ponte Vecchio. It’s that kind of local knowledge that makes a place worth the slightly higher price point. Sure, it’s not the cheapest option in the area, but for a four-star place with an 8.7 rating, you’re getting exactly what you pay for – a genuine Florence experience without the tourist trap feeling.

Location was absolutely excellent, close to train, tram to airport and city center. We were able to check earlier and staff was fantastic. This was most spacious and brightest room we rented on our trip to Tuscany. Also bed and pillows were one of best on our journey.

  • Ramona from Romania (9/10)

Very close to train station and central area, no need for public transportation to visit the main attractions.

5 minutes from the train station, 7 minutes from the duomo and supermarket next to us was so convenient to get water and a snack before going out again at night. We loved it!!

  • Melissa from United States (9/10)

We loved the location of the property. It was close to the train station, right next door to a grocery store & dozens of restaurants. We also loved that the balcony was very nice and the bed was comfortable. The room was super clean and well kept.

  • Kah from Malaysia (9/10)

Location is very very good. The room is really clean and i was pleasantly surprised. Everything works inside the room. It is hard to pick something bad out of it, other than maybe the bathroom slighly small for shower but that is because i am a rather plus size. I really enjoyed the stay and it exceeded my expectation. I will definitely recommend this hotel.
