Agriturismo Vista Sole
Cortona, ItalyYou know what really gets me about Agriturismo Vista Sole? It’s tucked away in this tiny hamlet called Mercatale that most people drive right past on their way to bigger Tuscan towns, but honestly – that’s exactly what makes it special. The address says Cs val di pierle 76, which sounds pretty formal, but when you actually get there it’s just this converted farmhouse sitting on a hillside with views that’ll make you forget about checking your phone for hours.
I mean, the whole agriturismo concept is having a moment right now, but this place has been doing it right long before it was trendy. The family who runs it actually farms the land around the property, so you’re not just staying at some countryside hotel – you’re literally watching the sun rise over working olive groves and vineyards. The morning sounds are incredible; roosters (obviously), but also church bells from the valley below and that particular quiet you only get when you’re properly away from traffic. Check-in is refreshingly low-key too – none of that sterile hotel lobby nonsense. They’ll probably offer you a glass of their own wine while explaining how everything works, which sets the tone perfectly.
The rooms themselves strike that tricky balance between rustic charm and actual comfort. Stone walls and wooden beams, sure, but the beds are genuinely good and the bathrooms work properly (trust me, this isn’t always a given with farmhouse conversions). What really sold me though was dinner – they source most ingredients from their own land or neighboring farms, and the pasta is made fresh daily. It’s not trying to be some fancy restaurant; it’s just really good food served family-style in a room that probably housed farm equipment fifty years ago. The wine list is short but everything’s local, and the guy serving will tell you exactly which hill each bottle came from if you ask.
Parking’s easy – just a gravel area next to the main building – and you’ll need a car anyway since Mercatale isn’t exactly bustling with public transport. But that isolation is the whole point. You’re about twenty minutes from Cortona if you want to do the tourist thing, but close enough to actual working farms that you feel like you’re seeing how people really live here. The 9.4 rating makes sense when you experience it; it’s not luxury in the marble-lobby sense, but it’s exactly what you hope for when you book a place like this. Late spring through early fall is peak season obviously, but I’d actually recommend shoulder seasons when the light is softer and you’ve got the countryside more to yourself.

Guest Reviews
What could be improved: Nothing
What could be improved: Would have to leave this section blank, nothing is coming to mind.
La casa è dotata di tutto ciò che può servire ad una persona e la proprietaria si è dimostrata disponibile in tutto, dagli asciugamani al pellet della stufa.
Ritorneremo sicuramente! Continuate così!
What could be improved: Forse il fornello a induzione è poco pratico per chi non lo conosce
What could be improved: Hot water was inconsistent but not a big problem in the summer.
Check the early check out when you book
What could be improved: La qualità del sonno è stata insoddisfacente perché c’era un solo condizionatore per tre camere posizionato nel corridoio ( e l’aria fresca ovviamente non riusciva a servirle tutte ) basterebbe un ventilatore a pale sopra i letti e la struttura sarebbe davvero perfetta
What could be improved: Into that we didn’t like it but the style was very traditional . Maybe a little more modernising would be nice . But very clean and spacious . Location was a very pretty area but not many bars and restaurants around
Voor ons een dikke 10!
En natuurlijk het heerlijke zwembad met parasols.
What could be improved: Dat we maar een paar dagen geboekt hadden.
