You know what’s funny about finding great places in Tuscany? Sometimes the best ones are hiding in plain sight on some random country road you’d never think to explore. That’s exactly what happened when I stumbled across Agriturismo Palazzi Del Papa – honestly, I almost drove right past it because I was so focused on getting to Pienza proper. But there it was, tucked away on Podere Palazzi, this gorgeous stone farmhouse that immediately made me slow down and take notice.

The thing about this place is that it gets the whole agriturismo concept absolutely right. I mean, you’re staying in what feels like a real working farm property (because it actually is), but without any of that rustic-means-uncomfortable nonsense you sometimes encounter. The rooms have this perfect balance of authentic Tuscan character – think exposed beams and terracotta floors – mixed with genuinely comfortable amenities. And the views? Well, let’s just say if you’re not waking up to rolling hills dotted with cypress trees, you’re doing Tuscany wrong. The location is brilliant too, actually – you’re close enough to walk into Pienza’s historic center in about fifteen minutes, but far enough out that you escape the tour bus crowds that descend on the town during peak hours.

What really sets this place apart, though, is how the family running it treats you like you’re visiting relatives rather than just another booking. They’ll point you toward the best local wine producers (skip the touristy ones in town and head to the smaller vineyards they recommend), and they actually know which restaurants in the area are worth your time versus which ones are just coasting on location. The breakfast spread features a lot of their own produce, and I’m talking properly ripe tomatoes and fresh herbs that taste like they were picked that morning – because they probably were. The whole property has this wonderfully quiet, unhurried feeling that makes you want to sit on the terrace with a glass of Brunello and just watch the light change across the Val d’Orcia. Parking is easy and free, which sounds minor until you’ve spent twenty minutes circling Pienza’s tiny streets looking for a spot. The only small downside? If you’re the type who needs to be in the thick of nightlife, this probably isn’t your speed – but honestly, if that’s what you’re after, you’re probably in the wrong part of Italy anyway.

  Sabrina the host is a very generous lady, she looks after the guests really well. I have never stayed in an agriturismo before, this was a perfect introduction. Breakfast was delicious and Sabrina cooked us dinner on one of the nights. Thank you Sabrina for your hospitality. Grazie mille, ciao.

  The hosts / owners were simply the best. They had no issue with switching the room when I wasn't going to be comfortable in the one assigned – thank you! And it was a great decision to switch (the end cap unit). The layout was perfect for a four night stay. The bed was comfortable, it was super quiet and the kitchen/living area was perfect. Vanity / shower / toilet are high end and the shower was comfy and produced hot water in no time. Wifi was excellent. Look, it exceeded our expectations across the board. We weren't there to use the pool, etc. so I can't comment on that experience. And did we mention the breakfast?! The hosts make most of it on their own from produce from their farm ranch and will take special requests too. In summary, they were extremely kind and genuinely interested in our stay and we were doing, offering suggestions on what to do, etc. Don't forget to ask about the cooking classes!

  We loved our stay at Palazzi del Papa, the setting and gardens were a beautiful place to relax and explore the Val D'Orcia. Sabrina and the staff were very kind and accommodating. We had fun trying to communicate with broken English and Italian! The highlight of the stay for us was a tour of the farm and learning to make Pici pasta with Martina.

  Beautiful property on country road in heart of Tuscany, made for easy day trips to Pienza & Montalcino. Sabrina and her daughter are genuinely lovely ladies, very accommodating. Sabrina hooked us up with a free wine tasting at local winery–excellent. Apartment "Bellarmine" had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and a small functional kitchen and was clean and very comfortable. The grounds are lovely. Wonderful experience for 3 nights in Tuscany.

  This place was amazing! The views were stunning, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and made check-in and check-out super easy. The cooking class was a highlight, and breakfast was delicious with plenty of fresh options. Highly recommend for a relaxing Tuscan getaway!

  Beautiful, peaceful setting. Surrounded by olive trees and an immaculate garden. The pool was lovely and cool.

  Amazing place to relax and unwind. Lovely homemade breakfast. Martina and her mom were quite hospitable. They even let us visit their family run farm.
