You know what? I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first pulled up to Agriturismo Boschi di Montecalvi – honestly, the GPS had me second-guessing myself on those winding roads through the Suvereto countryside. But then you see this beautiful stone farmhouse tucked into the hills, and it just clicks. This is exactly what you picture when you think “Tuscan escape,” except it’s actually comfortable and well-run, not just Instagram-pretty.

The thing about this place is that it feels authentically agricultural without being rustic to the point of inconvenience. I mean, you’re literally surrounded by olive groves and vineyards (they produce their own wine, which you’ll definitely want to try), but the rooms are genuinely nice – think exposed beams and terracotta floors, but with proper bathrooms and air conditioning that actually works. The family running it has been here for generations, and it shows in all these little touches you wouldn’t expect. Like how they’ll casually mention the best time to walk through their woods to avoid the heat, or which local trattorias in Suvereto village are worth the ten-minute drive.

What really sold me was the breakfast situation – and I’m usually pretty critical about hotel breakfast. They serve everything on this gorgeous terrace overlooking the valley, and most of what you’re eating comes from their own property or neighboring farms. The prosciutto is from a guy just down the road, the honey is from their own bees (you can actually hear them if you’re quiet), and the bread comes warm from Suvereto’s bakery each morning. It’s the kind of meal that makes you want to linger over coffee for way too long. The pool area is another highlight – it’s positioned perfectly to catch the afternoon sun without being too exposed, and there’s usually a nice breeze coming up from the valley. Fair warning though: if you’re here in August, book dinner reservations in advance because half of northern Italy seems to descend on this area, and the good restaurants in Suvereto fill up fast.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to explore this part of Tuscany properly. You’re close enough to the coast (maybe 20 minutes to some really beautiful, less touristy beaches near Piombino) but still deep in wine country. The Strada del Vino runs right through here, and the owners can point you toward some smaller wineries that don’t make it into the guidebooks. Plus, parking is never an issue – which, if you’ve driven around Tuscany, you know is not something to take for granted. The whole experience feels like staying with sophisticated relatives who happen to have excellent taste and their own olive oil production. It’s not cheap, but for what you get – and especially for that 8.8 rating, which honestly feels about right – it’s worth it.
